Riza's POV
"Sir, I have the papers you requested." I state, voice monotone.
He jumps up, as if not expecting me to be there.
"Ah, yes, thank you Lieutenant." He says, face crimson.
"If I may ask, what were you doing, Sir?" I imply.
"Nothing." He says a little to quickly. Typical Roy, probably staring at some blond bimbo's dating profile, ogling her like a creep.
I sigh, not wanting to give away my disappointment in him.
"That's a lot of papers," he states, arm reaching up to scratch his head, "are you sure that they're all for me?"
"Yes, Sir, all 411 pages."
He curses under his breath, muttering words that I can't comprehend.
"Well, I'd better get to it."
"Good idea, sir." I reply.
"Are you heading home?"
I hesitate for a split second, then reply,"Yes I am, unless you need me to stay?"
"I just thought that you might be going to that office party, at the pub down the street." He says, arm around his neck, rubbing slowly.
Is he nervous? No, that just must be my crazy romantic brain, always jumping to conclusions.
"Oh, I forgot. It's tonight?" I ask.
"Yeah."
"Oh, ok. I'll see you there I guess." I say while blushing heavily. I turn and walk out the door. Trying to hide my blush.
He's going. Tonight must be perfect.
Roy's POV
This is my most treasured possession. The photo of me and Riza when we were teenagers.
She had her hair down, which she rarely does now, and her eyes were sparkling. The way the sun caught her face was enchanting.
I was so focused on the photo that I didn't notice the door open.
"Sir, I have the papers you requested."
Shit. It's Riza.
I shove the photo in my pocket and reply, "Ah, yes, thank you Lieutenant."
"If I may ask, what were you doing, Sir?" She asks politely.
Crap.
"Nothing"
Jeez, Roy, smooth.
She can't know how I feel. She'll reject me for sure! First of all we aren't allowed to date, second of all, she must have way higher standards than me.
I need to break this awkward silence.
"That's a lot of papers, are you sure that they're all for me?"
"Yes, Sir, all 411 pages."
I mutter under my breath. This is going to take a while.
"Well, I'd better get to it."
"Good idea sir."
I saw her start for the door.
"Are you heading home?"
"Yes, I am, unless you need me to stay?"
"I just thought that you might be going to that office party, at the pub down the street."
"Oh, I forgot. It's tonight?" She asks.
"Yeah."
"Oh, ok. I'll see you there I guess." She replies as she walks out the door.
She's going. Tonight must be perfect.
