So for those who don't know I work at Brighton Asylum. And for those who are like "wtf is Brighton Asylum" well here you go:
As my coworker shania has famously said on my snapchat: Oogley, Boogley!
Anywho I work at Brighton Asylum. Last night I had work from 3:30 pm to 12 am. Safe to say I was relatively tired when I got home. But listen close, listen carefully
I love my job to like the ends of the earth. I really do. But it does take its toll on me. In example
Last night was zombie night. Basically the customers played laser tag, with us being the zombies and they had to shoot us to "kill" us. I was in the tunnel. Yes it was fucking amazing it was so much fun. However I was crawling around all night. And not just crawling. Crawling in and out of something. So when people killed me I had to lay there limp on top of something that fucking hurt like all hell broke loose. And then I would have my legs be up against something to the point that my legs are just all bruised up.
I have 12 bruises and counting
My job is the best. My boss(es) are the best. My co workers are the best. My pay is the best. I love everything about Brighton Asylum.
Except for the toll it has on my body
I literally got the worst night sleep I've had in my whole life. I could not lay on my sides, and I sleep fetal position. So yeah. It was relatively hard to fall asleep. I had to remain on my back all night, which I did not do I woke up more times than I could count.
It hurts to walk up and down the stairs. It hurts to lift my arms. I couldn't even make cereal this morning without being in pain!
Oh and I have a contusion on my right elbow so yeah go zombie night!
And it's not even just psychical I swear to god working at Brighton has messed with my head a little. Just last night I had the creepiest fucking dream that I watched one of my classmates be murdered and I did nothing about it. I wasn't even phased by it in the dream! And then I had another dream a couple weeks ago after a 4 pm to 1 am night where I fought a guy in my school and I beat him up so bad he started spewing out vomit and blood, then he started like foaming at the mouth and eyes. I woke up and the first thought i had was "holy shit working at Brighton is messing with my head." When I went to work I told everyone about it
It's like. Jesus Christ I feel like I'm slowly going insane working at that place. But god dammit i love it so much. I have scars on my hand from work. It's a nice little reminder of my first job :3
Okay I think that's all I have to say about working at Brighton. Oh! Here's some tips if you also wanna work at a haunted house:
Tip #1: Choose the right haunted attraction!
Even if it's your favorite haunted house, their work conditions might be the worst thing in the world. I've heard some stories from my co workers, and they stayed at Brighton because they treat their actors better than any place they've worked before. So be sure to know how the actors are treated!
Tip #2: Be friendly!
If you're not friendly to the people around you, trust me, you're gonna be miserable. There's almost 100 of us at Brighton and everyone knows me and loves me, except for one girl but her and I have had beef for like a whole year. But even so I do my best to either keep my distance or keep my mouth shut when she's around. Remember that you are at work, it's not school, you will get called out by your boss if you start any drama between co workers.
Tip #3: Hydrate or Dydrate!
Trust me with all the moving, talking, grunting, and screaming you will be doing you will get thirsty. I bring around 5 water bottles a night and drink ALL of them. Be sure to also bring cough drops and pain killers. You never know when you're gonna start losing your voice or when you're gonna get hit (trust me I would know).
Tip #4: tell them about your phobias
I have a phobia of large spiders. I can deal with small ones but big ones are a no no for me. So much of a no no that I had to tell my boss I cannot work a certain room in the haunt because it has one giant spider in it.
Tip #5: Have a decent diet and sleep well
You don't wanna be tired in the middle of customers coming through. It'll show in your performance. If your haunted house is like mine and you're working long and late hours, sleep until you have to leave for work in an hour and then get up. Buy a sandwich on the way there. That's what i did and i survived just fine.
And if you don't eat well enough, you're going to be fatigue from all the movement you do. My co worker nick came to work without eating and he fainted in his spot, and he had to be taken out of work in a wheelchair. I cried when I saw him.
That's all the tips I could think of! I hope if you ever choose to work at a haunted house you remember my tips and love your job just as much as I do! Hell we'll even be hiring for Brighton Asylum next year again so come by and we can be best friends!
