Finding Jack

                                    

                                          
The next morning, Davey came up to me. "We gotta find jack" I nodded. We headed off towards medda's theatre, the only place we could think he would be. 
                          
As we walked in we spotted him talking to Medda. "How about letting a pal know you're alive!" Davey exclaimed. I nodded in agreement. 
                          
"Where did ya go? We couldnt find ya!" I asked. 
                          
"Ever think I didn't want to be found?" Jack retorted. I frowned. 
                          
"Did you see the papes? We're front page news!" Davey told him. "Above the fold!" I added. 
                          
"Good for you" jack said sullenly. 
                          
"Everyone wants to meet the famous jack kelley" Davey told him. 
                          
"Even spot said he was with us next time!" I added. He had sent a boy over last night to spread the news. 
                          
"Every newsy who could walk was out dere dis morning selling papes like da strike never happened" jack responded angrily. 
                          
"We gotta eat" I said quietly. 
                          
"Yeah I get it. Its hopeless" jack said. 
                          
"Weasel was nervous. We got em" Davey told him. 
                          
Then Les and Katherin popped into the theatre. "So what's the story? Can we have the theatre?" Les asked. 
                          
"Word is you wrote a great story" jack told Katherine shortly. 
                          
"Too bad I've been blacklisted from every paper" she responded sadly. 
                          
"So the plan is to have a rally in the theatre. We get all the working kids we can, after working hours so no one loses a days pay" Davey told jack.
                          
"Oh so that's what youre aiming for! Yous crazy" Jack exclaimed 
                          
Katherine gestured at the backdrop behind him "you paint places youve never seen and you're calling us crazy?"  
                          
"Wanna see someplace I've seen?" Jack turned the backdrop around to show a graphic of the newsies being stomped on "newsies square"
                          
"Lighten up no one died" Davey exclaimed
                          
"Oh is that what you're aiming for? There's no way I'm putting those kids back in danger!" He yelled "specs brought me a note from crutchy at the refuge" I shuddered "I went to see him. Climbed the fire escape. They busted him up so bad he couldn't even come to the window. What if he doesnt make it?"
