The rest of the day went by quickly, lunch I had spent getting to know the others and they treated me as if they've known me for a while which is a good start. It's now reached the end of the day and I was heading back to my car. As I unlocked it and jumped in I wasn't the only one. Luke had suddenly hopped into the passenger seat and I had no idea he was even around me.
"Oh hey Lexie." He looked at me with a playful grin on his face. What is wrong with him? I looked at him with slight annoyance and confusion.
"Uh hi...why are you in my car?" I let the annoyance slide because his presence somehow made me happier. He looked at me for a few seconds before replying.
"I thought we could...talk," He looked at me with a serious expression. His blue eyes looked straight into mine and I paused before replying.
"Ok, shoot." I had no idea what this was about so I thought I might as well make him get straight to the point to save me waiting around in the school car park any longer. He looked at me then down to his feet.
"Uh, my..friend. He's really into you." I looked at him a little stunned. He wanted to talk to me about this? Harry did come across as quite shy but I'm sure he could've told me himself.
"Well that's nice to hear." A smile creeped up on my face and Luke looked up at me. "Oh and I was also wondering if you were busy after school, like now..?" I felt awkward being even this close to Luke. I felt some spark between us but I knew I couldn't have any feelings that are more than just friendly. He looked at me with hopeful eyes.
"Actually no." I smiled at him. Maybe it would be good for me being friends with Luke? I guess I'll know in the long run, but if I can't like Luke in one way, another way would have to do. I don't feel guilt for hanging round with Luke with these thoughts in my head, I mean it's Harry's friend and it's not like me and Harry are a couple or anything.
"Maybe we could hang out then? I have something cool at my house if you want to check it out?" I felt the butterfly feeling in the pit of my stomach as he spoke. I replied with a simple 'sure' and since Luke couldn't drive yet, I drove along with his directions.
We pulled up to an average sized house and we climbed out of the car. It was still only my first day and I had already made a load of friends, been asked out on a date and invited to hang out with Luke. This is by far the best first day yet. Luke placed his hand on the small of my back and I flinched slightly. I wasn't expecting it but when I looked up at Luke he showed it was just a friendly gesture. In a way I was disappointed it wasn't more but I understood considering he was taken. He lead me up the path and into his home. I was concerned about what he wanted to show me and if his parents were home.
"The house is pretty quiet until six. You you don't have to worry about us being disturbed, Lex." I nodded my head to let him know I acknowledged his information. It was like he read my mind. I also noticed he gave me a nickname which sounded perfect coming from his lips. Surprisingly no one has ever shortened my name to that so I felt kind of special that he was the first.
"Are you ok?" I realised I was still stood in his doorway and staring at him. Way to make things awkward.
"Yeah, it's just...no one's called me that before." I said a little too slow which probably made me sound like an idiot. Luke started walking closer to me and his lips were heading for my ear.
"Oh really?" He talked in a low tone and made his voice deep. I felt a shiver roll down my spine as he breathed onto my ear. "Have you ever thought about what it sounds like, Lex?" I stood there with a stunned expression. I could feel my cheeks heating up suddenly and I couldn't control anything. Luke slowly walked back and was suddenly in hysterics.
"Oh my god I have never acted so serious you should've seen your face!" I looked at him dumbfounded. I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. I've know him one day; how can he show so much change in a short space of time? I had enough of him, so I turned on my heal and quickly opened the door, speed walking down the pavement. I heard hard footsteps behind me of Luke's running and he made me stop in my tracks by standing in front of me. I glared at him as a warning to move to show I wasn't in the mood.
"Look Lex, I'm sorry can we start again, I didn't mean to embarrass you or whatever." Luke looked at me with pure guilt. I couldn't stay mad or upset with him and I don't know why. No one has ever had this effect on me. I slowly started to move backwards towards the house and smiled at Luke before turning back around. He lead the way once again and this time we walked straight up the stairs.
"Please say you don't mind climbing ladders." Luke said once we reached the top of the stairs. I looked at him once again and furrowed my eyebrows. He then reached up and pulled down a ladder leading into an attic which answered my confusion.
"Your going first. How do I know your not trying to lock me up there and keep me hostage?" I raised my eyebrows and crossed my arms with a slight smile on my face.
"Fine, but you've ruined my role of being a gentleman by not letting the lady go first." He laughed slightly and I pushed him playfully on the arm. He then turned and climbed up the ladder with me following closely behind.
I stood to my feet once I reached the top. I looked in awe because I had never seen anything like it. Luke gave me a knowing look and smiled at me sweetly. I continued to look at my surroundings. The room was reasonably big with one wall spray painted with something like a comic scene and Luke was the superhero. He was holding a girl in his arms bridal style. The wall wasn't complete so the girl was currently only sketched, with long hair covering the face and no colour added. I never expected to see that.
"I know it's bad, I-" I cut him off.
"Are you kidding? It's amazing! Considering I came up here expecting to see a toaster or something this is just, wow." I said with enthusiasm clear in my voice. He looked at me, his cheeks turning a light shade of pink.
"Uh..I don't even know why I brought you up here to be honest..but I'm glad I did." He looked so genuine and sweet.
"Yeah this is awesome, Luke." I turned and saw a guitar sitting in the corner of the room. "Do you play?!" I said a little too loud.
"Uh yeah, I sing a bit too but nothing serious." He said casually.
"Oh my god please play me something?" I know I had only met him this morning but it seems like I've known him way longer. I'd definitely class us as friends now without a doubt but I hate not knowing how he feels.
"Uh..maybe another time." He said slowly. Maybe I did go a bit far but I'm sure once we become closer it wouldn't be a problem. I have this gut feeling his voice will be perfect, just like the rest of him.
We sat talking on his bed for about an hour about random school stuff and although it wasn't an interesting topic, Luke made it seem so much better. I then decided to go home before his mum came home. We said our goodbyes and shared a hug before I left. I have no idea what's going on but I think I like it. I drove home with a smile on my face, having a hot friend like Luke is new to me. But I'm going to take advantage of it for sure.
