Chapter 16

(Peetas pov)

"N..no h..heartbeat?" I ask the doctor tearfully, "I'm terribly sorry" the doctor tells me looking at his feet, I can tell he's disappointed too. I look over at Katniss and I can see her rubbing her belly crying her eyes out. "NO! Try again! Get another doctor or another machine and try again! Our baby is not dead!!" I shout at the doctor, he acknowledges my comment and heads out the room. "Peeta, w..why us? Just when we where getting our l..lives back on track it gets d..destroyed" she tells me crying her eyes out. I can't reply, I just go and sit on the bed and wrap her in my arms so she feels safe.

After a couple of minutes the doctor comes back in with another doctor and another machine, "Peeta insisted another doctor and machine, so if you would like to do the honours" the doctor tells the other. He places the jelly on Katniss' belly and once again we see our beautiful baby girl on the screen, still no heartbeat... "Peeta, if our baby has gone promise me something?" She asks me, "What?" "You will stay with me won't you?" She asks looking right into my eyes, I reply "Always" pressing my lips to hers.

I stop kissing her when I hear it....our baby's heartbeat! "A h..heartbeat-" I try to say, the doctor interrupts me "We found out why we couldn't hear the heartbeat of your baby, something was blocking it.." "What!?" Katniss asks getting impatient, "Another baby was blocking it...you're having twins!" The doctor says with a smile! "T..twins? B..but why couldn't we see two on the screen?" I ask them, "We have a special monitor that deals with twins and triplets, that's why you only saw one" she replies. "Peeta, were having twins!" She shouts at me with a smile! "Do you want to know the gender?" The doctor asks, "YES" me and Katniss reply in unison, "You're having a girl and a...boy!" She replies. First we think we lost our first baby but now we have two!!

Me and Katniss can't stop talking about the babies on our way home and how we need double the stuff! "Peeta I'm so glad we're having a girl and a boy! You going to have a son" she tells me with a smile, "WE'RE going to have a son" I reply pressing my lips to hers. This has turnout to be a great day!
