I can see the strength of her mental façade stripping away.
The weaknesses she prides herself on keeping hidden away are creeping through in the form of dark shadows. She's meant to be the perfect picture of an Alpha; strong and fearsome. She hasn't yet accepted that it isn't her. She's the soft, kind Alpha everyone appreciates. If only she wasn't blind to it.
Having wiped her tears from under her eyes, she stands, taking the chains with her. There is something too incredible for words in her eyes every time I meet them. Beyond the sheen of luminous emerald green, there is a sense of compassion, of understanding that I will never be able to reach.
That she would never share with someone like me.
She drags the chains from my cell, locking the door after her. The silver had burnt right into my skin, searing it with a brand that will last for months after this experience. It should, anyway.
I hear her open Callan's cell. I also hear his pleading words filled with mismatched lies and desperation. Even in my state, I still roll my eyes at how pathetic he manages to be. I shouldn't be surprised. He has always been this way. If Faye falls for this now, I'll be damned.
She seems set in her ways, however, as I listen in on their conversation, willing some strength into her backbone.
"You are going to answer the questions that I ask," Faye says firmly. I watch Guards pass by my cell door, all ready to assist their Alpha in binding Cal to the wall. He would be foolish to resist, although he's never struck me as a smart man. Cunning, perhaps. Intelligent, that's another story.
"Alpha you have gotten this all wrong," Cal pleads. "That Silent has manipulated you, me. I'm not the bad one here, he is."
He's not wrong about me, in some aspects. However, he's wrong about himself.
"I get to ask the questions," Faye repeats, her voice muffled by the sounds of the chains clinking. I can tell he's tied to the wall at this point by how quickly his protests come. Much to my own pleasure, Faye isn't having any of it.
If only I could watch what happens between them. I'll have to settle for listening, imagining the panicked look on his face when he realises his plan isn't working. Oh, how he must wish he had a brother named Fate.
"Are you controlling T?" Faye asks. My eyebrow raises.
"Hardly," Cal replies, his tone nothing but a grumble. "As if I could do anything to make a difference in his life. We are here for different reasons."
Faye seems satisfied with this answer, considering I hear no groan of pain in response. At the thought of it, that searing hot fire sears across my rooms again, making me curse softly under my breath. It hurts; however, I'm clinging to the hope that Faye will do damage to Cal too. Just as much if not more would suffice nicely.
"And what are your reasons?" Faye asks. I sit up more, curious on how he is going to get around this one. "Remember, I'm wielding the silver."
"I'm here to be your Personal Guard, Faye-"
I can feel his pain as he groans, begging through baited breath for Faye to relent. She does instantly, of course. She has no heart to keep the silver pressed against his skin for longer than a few moments. It's not her lack of strength, but her compassion for the guy. She is still confused on who to trust.
