Verma's POV
Darkness. Darkness. Darkness. Darkn---
Light, Light, Light, Light, LIGHT.
I gasp as I rose from my slumber. Breathing hard, I look around to see what time it is. The sun was setting and the servants were piling into the house one by one.
"Guess the day's over. Dinner should be ready soon." I thought to myself.I stood up, yawning and stretched my body. I walked out of my chair and went into the house to find Keythria.

"So he was like "No." but his friend was like "No too." and then he said "how about we try a yes." and the guy said "Okay." So they both never said anything after seven years! Ahahaha!" Ershebus laughed obnoxiously.
"Ugh, sir? Can you like, not laugh like your choking on air? Jeez, you sound worse than a dying pig." My conscience criticized.
"Can you not like, you know, act like a petty person?" I sassed.
"Whatever, babe. But you got to admit, his sense of humor is horrible." My conscience said.
I sighed mentally.
"That is true."
I was too busy talking to myself that I wasn't able to hear that Matiena was already calling me.
"Verma!" Matiena called.
I turned to her confused. "Yes, what is it?"
"I've been trying to get your attention for five minutes now. Are you feeling fine?" My sister asked.
No.
"Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?"
Matiena gave me a dry look.
"Oh, I think you know why."
I froze.
Why do we have to talk about it now?
Matiena took my hand and held it.
"Sis, you know you can talk to me. We only have each other now."
"We do, don't we?" I sadly replied.
"Aww, come on. Don't be so gloomy, you'll lose your beauty." Matiena rhymed.
"Sis, even if I get sad, my beauty never goes spoiled or bad." I replied. Matiena then smiled widely.
"Now that's the Verma I know. Wanna go exploring later after dinner?" She suggested.
I smiled, "Sure, why not?"
Why not, indeed.
------------------------------------------------------
"The lilies look beautiful tonight." I thought as my sister and I walked hand in hand in the garden.
"Dinner was awful," Matiena commented. "I can't believe we sat for two hours straight while listening to lord Ershebus' bad humor. I swear, his ego is just as bad as his wits."
I laughed. "You better hope no one heard you say that."
Matiena just smiled at me and continued walking. We continued walking silently until we rested on a tree and sat underneath it.
"So, care to elaborate what happened yesterday?" She asked.
Suddenly, I started crying. I don't know why.
Is it because of dad? Of mom? Of uncle? Of my family? My home? What?
Matiena suddenly pulled me to her chest and hugged my tight. "Aw, Verma, I'm sorry. You don't have to tell me anything. Sshhh, it's all over, it's all right. Calm down, sis. Calm down."
After a moment, I calmed down and relaxed in my sister's hug.
"Sis?" I called out to Matiena.
"Yeah?" She looked down at me.
"I'm ready t-to tell you a-a-about what h-happened." I stuttered.
"You don't have to if you don't want to..."
I cut her off, "I want to. Because I need to let someone know and you deserve to know what happened."
Matiena smiled at me sadly and nodded her head. "I'm listening."
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
"I was walking down the halls of our house when I heard shouting inside dad's room. I peeked inside, because I was curious and saw father and uncle Justinus arguing. They were shouting about father's infidelity and some sort of drama about..." I trailed off and opened my eyes.
I didn't want to let Matiena know about uncle Justinus' and father's affair.
"About?" She encouraged.
"About their affair with each other." I concluded.
Matiena was silent. She just looked down at me with pity and sorrow.
"I'm so sorry you had to suffer this much." She said. "But please continue."
So I did. I told her every single detail I could recount and explained them the best I could. Matiena was silent all throughout and never spoke a word and just made gestures to show she's listening.
"...And then I ended up here." I finished.
My sister was silent for a while and then she decided to speak.
"I knew."
I knew? I knew?! What did she mean she KNEW?!
"What?" Was all I could say.
"I knew this would happen eventually. I just didn't expect it to happen so suddenly!" She said.
I don't bloody understand!
"Matiena could you tell me what do you mean?" I asked.
Matiena closed her eyes and then looked at me in the eyes.
"Verma," She trailed.
"I knew this would happen to you."
What?
