I cringe into the locker as Derek delivers another kick to my side I could try to fight back but It would not help. He has two of his thugs with him and he can beat me up even if he is by himself. Your so pathetic Derek said to me I know it is true but it still hurts to be reminded every day. He delivered another kick to my side and I hear a crack. Probably my rib I thought to myself it is not the first rib I have broken and knowing my life it won't be the last. I scream out in pain because no matter how many times it has happened it is still just as painful. Derek pulled back his leg and I close my eyes and prepare my self for the next blow. I hear a cry of pain but it is not from me I look around in confusion there is one of the most popular boys in school Roman Royals holding Derek against the locker. What are you doing Derek hissed. Patton crouched down next to me and said to me are you all right. I scrambled to my feet and bolted in the other direction. Tears of humiliation running down my face of course Patton of all people had to see me. Wait Patton called but I kept running until I was in the bathroom I went into a stall and locked the door and sat done and started crying harder. There was a soft knock on the bathroom door can you open the door Patton said. Why are you hear I asked. Because I wanted to check on you Patton said. Why do you care I asked in confusion. Because no one deserves to be hurt as much as you are Patton said in a soft voice. I stood up and slowly opened the door waiting to see the pity one his face but all I saw was sadness I briefly hated my self for putting that look on the normally happy boys face. Can I hug you Patton asked me. I nod still a little confused and Patton hugged me and it was amazing I had not been hugged like this in so long. I winced from the pain in my rib and Patton pulled back immediately with alarm in his eyes. Are you okay he asked. I am fine I muttered he still looked worried but thankfully he changed the conversation. I never got your name this morning you ran out of the bathroom so fast. I looked at him and whispered my name is Virgil. Do you want to sit with me and my friends at lunch today Patton asked me. Really I asked home cringing at the disbelief and hope in my voice. He looked at me and said in an even voice meet me here okay. Okay I said in a small voice hating how vulnerable I sounded. I hurried out of the bathroom and just made it to my next class wincing from the pain in my side. The next couple of classes seemed to drag on until I was in the period before lunch I sat there taping my pen and glancing at the clock every five minutes. Until finally the bell rang and I grabbed my stuff and practically sprinted to the bathroom. And there Patton was standing there waiting for me I kind of doubted that he actually wanted to have lunch with me. He looked up and smiled at me hey he said. Hi I said. After a few minutes of awkward silence he said so do you want to go. Sure I said so quietly I was not sure if he even heard me but he started walking so I followed him. I can't wait for you to meet my friends Patton said in an excited tone I know they are going to love you. I didn't know how he knew that when he barely knew knew me but I was kinda happy he was so excited just to introduce me to his friends. He is faking you idiot I thought to myself he just feels bad for you. Shut up I mumbled to myself. What did you say Patton asked me in a cheerful tone. Nothing I said quickly I had to be more careful I could not let my first real friend in a while think I was crazy the first day we started talking. We got to the cafeteria and he sat at a table with three other boys already sitting there. Roman Royals, and Logan and Thomas sanders I have a lot of classes with Roman and Logan but they had never talked to me before. They looked up as we sat down and I was worried they were going to tell me to leave but they all smiled at me and Thomas said hi am Thomas who are you? Everyone this is Virgil Patton said practically bouncing out of his seat in joy. Hi Virgil said quietly he glanced up quickly but then went back to studying  his shoes. Everyone one at the table shared a look and Roman said hey hot topic sit next to me. Did he just call me hot topic Virgil thought to himself. Virgil glanced up quickly to see if Roman was making fun of him and when he saw nothing but sincerity in his eyes he slowly walked around the table and sat next to Roman. So Patton said that is Logan and that is Roman and Thomas already introduced himself. I already know them we have a lot of classes together Virgil mumbled. Roman looked surprised how old are you he asked. I am 16 Virgil said. How are you 16 and in a lot of are classes Logan asked him. I am in a lot of advanced classes Virgil mumbled. I don't think I have seen you in any of my classes Logan stated with confusion in his voice. We sit next to each other in chemistry Virgil said in a embarrassed voice not looking up as he talked. I am sorry I never noticed you before Logan said equally embarrassed. It fine mumbled Virgil. After a few minutes of awkward silence Patton said so Virgil what type of music do you like? Umm I mostly like my chemical romance, TOP, and fall out boy. Omg Roman said I love TOP. They talked about the band for a few minutes when Robert the janitor walked up behind Virgil. Hey Rob Virgil said completely at ease with the janitor. Virgil you better not hide in the school after hours again the janitor said in a fake angry tone. Come on Rob I found a really good hiding place Virgil teased. He knew the janitor would find him but he still liked to hide because it had made him and the janitor pretty close and there was always the chance the janitor would not find him. Virgil I am not kidding we are not playing hide and seek. But Rooooob Virgil said in a fake whining tone. You don't have food again Robert said. Virgil looked down embarrassed. Here Rob said handing Virgil 5 dollars you are way to skinny. Thanks Rob Virgil said. Bye Virgil i wish I did not have to say see you later but I know I will have to chase from the school. You love it Virgil cried as he walked away. For the first time since his conversation with Rob he noticed that everyone at the table had stopped talking and was listening to him talk to the janitor. What I asked. You and the janitor are close Logan stated. Yeah so I asked. Nothing Patton said quickly glaring at Logan. I am going to go buy some lunch I said. Okay Patton said. I stood up and got food quickly and when I got back to the table I noticed Patton and Logan were fighting but when they saw me coming they stopped. I sat down and started eating my food my sleeve must have slipped down because Roman said that's a nasty bruise. I quickly pulled my sleeve up but he had already seen it. Did you get it from that idiot Derek Roman asked. Yeah I quickly agreed thanks for stopping him I said. It was no problem Roman said. I hate it when jerks like him act like they own the school he said in an annoyed tone. The bell rang and I said bye and went to my next class which happened to be social studies the class I have with both Logan and Roman. They walked in together and they both looked surprised when they saw me. You have this class too Roman said in a surprised tone. You two are supper self absorbed I teased really Logan I am in all of your classes. They both looked ashamed. It's fine guys I don't really care you had no reason to notice me before it's not like I tried to talk to you. The teacher started his lesson Mr. Wilson looked at me with a creepy look in his eye and walked up behind me after he started the book work. He leaned down with his hand on my shoulder and said to you need any help tracing my shoulder blade. N-no I said shivering with disgust. He must of took it the wrong way because he lowered his hand to my lower back and left it there. Are you sure he asked squeezing lightly. Y-yes I managed to squeak out flinching away from him. He squeezed one last time but finally moved away I looked around to see if anyone noticed I thought I was in the clear until I saw Logan and Roman starring with wide eyes. I could not deal with anymore today. I raised my hand an asked to go to the nurses office. Fine said the teacher after glaring at me for a minute. I left as quickly as i could without looking at anyone. When I got to the nurse office she saw how pale I was and said I was okay to go home I told her I would call my parents and left the school after pretending to get a text from them saying they were there. I ran home and opened the door as quietly as I could. No one home I thought good. I went to my room and started to think about the day I made a fool out of myself I thought they all hate you. No they don't I muttered. Yes they do you are worthless. Shut up I said angry at myself. No one will ever like you I thought you are pathetic and unlovable. Stop I said I can't take anymore. You know how to stop this I thought. I picked up my blade and started to cut my wrist. Pathetic I thought you can't even stop hurting yourself. After awhile when I became numb to the feeling I put the blade away and stopped the bleeding I can get a few hours of sleep I thought before I am back in hell. I closed my eyes and drifted into a restless slumber not even daring to think about what waited for me in school tomorrow.
