You noticed him on a Tuesday, when the rain grew heavy and he stood in the pouring rain without an umbrella. You - being raised to be respectful and courteous - were quick to offer your umbrella, and the two of you walked quietly to the tailor shop. He bid you thanks, and you didn't see him again for three weeks.

It was raining again, but only in a slight drizzle. You found yourself closing your umbrella and turning your head to the sky, eyes shut as you basked in the rain like it was the warm rays of the sun. You were at peace - so at peace that you did not hear him approaching, and were only made aware of his presence when you felt a light tap on your shoulder and heard a soft-spoken question.

"Do you need an umbrella?"

You smiled, turning to look upon the familiar face. A strand of hair fell across your face, and you moved quickly to fix it. The man from the tailor shop smiled in return.

"No," you replied simply, raising your umbrella into view. "I just happen to like the rain. It's calming, and it distracts me from other things."

"Other things?" He asked, his voice portraying his curiosity. "Like what?"

"Yes, well," you grinned, eyes twinkling with amusement, "if I told you about them, it would defeat the purpose of being distracted, would it not?"

He laughed - a whole, hearty laugh, that made you wonder if it was something he hadn't done in a while, because he seemed far too stressed to allow himself even a moment of joy and tranquility in his overwhelming life.

"Well, then," he continued, "might I have the honor of knowing your name?" He faked a short bow, inclining his head in your direction and sweeping his hand out in an overdramatic gesture.

You snickered, covering your mouth with one hand.

"Y/N L/N," you responded, "at your service."

"Merlin, at yours."

The two of you were quick to continue your conversation, and as the weeks passed, you seemed to bump into him more and more often. Once, you were on your way to get coffee. Another time, you were at the bank. And yet another time, you were walking down the street, passing the tailor shop where you brought him the day you first met.

He was with a friend this time, a man who, like him, wore a suit and glasses, and had an air of respect not unlike your favorite tailor. However, there was a difference between Merlin and his friend. While you had never met the former, the latter was entirely too familiar.

"Harry!" You exclaimed with a smile, embracing said person. He chuckled, ignoring Merlin's incredulous look, and pulled back, allowing you to get a better look at him. "I haven't seen you in ages. How's the business been holding up?"

"Y/N," Harry greeted, eyes scanning your face. "I almost didn't recognize you! How has America been treating you?"

"Fine, fine," you assured him, rolling your eyes, despite the growing smile on your face, "but don't avoid the question."

Harry offered you an arm, which you quickly took a hold of, and the two of you made your way into the tailor shop, Merlin - who was still in a semi-state of shock - following close behind you.

"Wait," Merlin said upon entering the building. You and Harry reluctantly stopped, looking back at the inquisitive Scotsman. "You know each other?"

Harry laughed, "Of course. Y/N here is my cousin."

Merlin gaped.

"I think we should take this behind closed doors." You glanced at the lingering figures in the corner of the room. Your eyes quickly darted to an employee, and you smiled softly before continuing, "I do believe we'll need a fitting room. My friend here is looking for a new coat."
