''Sirius, no!'' James said, angrily.
''Sirius, yes!'' Sirius argued back. James threw his arms up into the air, knowing he was defeated. You could never beat Sirius in an argument.
''What are you guys even arguing about?'' Remus asked as he and Peter sat down at the table. Sirius grunted angrily, but grabbed Remus' hand and held in on the table. James thought it was really cute, because he loved the idea them both dating.
''Well, I think it would be a good idea for James to ask out Lily, but James is too chicken to do it.'' Sirius explained, doing the air quote things where James had spoken. James rolled his eyes.
''Shut up, Sirius, she's coming!'' James said, and they all looked over to the red head in question, who was walking with four of her friends. James recognized Mary, Lily, Dorcas and Alice, but not the last girl, who had pretty brown skin and nice copper coloured hair.
''Hey, guys!'' Lily said, sitting down at the table near the boys. Her friends joined them, but James barely noticed. He was only focusing on the way her thigh was touching his.
''Hey! Who are you?'' Sirius said, and James nodded, as if asking the dark skinned girl as well.
''Hi, I'm Donna.'' Donna said, and James thought the name suited her well. Sirius grinned.
''Nice to have a new one to the team.'' He said, and Remus rolled his eyes, but he was smiling.
''You're such a dork.'' He said, shaking his head, and Sirius grinned. He said something to Remus which made Remus laugh, and Sirius watch him, smiling, and James wanted to know what he had said, although he felt that it was something private, a part of him yearned to have a relationship like that.
''Are you dating?" Dorcas blurted, and Remus went red, although Sirius narrowed his eyes.
''Is that a problem?'' He asked, and Dorcas laughed.
''No, I just think it's cute, that's all.'' She said, and Sirius grinned a bit, and Remus smiled.
''Thanks, but if you could avoid telling people, that'd be great.'' Sirius said, and Dorcas laughed again.
''Okay. No problem, I love being in on things.'' She said, and Sirius laughed.
''As does everyone.'' He said, and Dorcas nodded. They starting talking then, all of them, Mary and Sirius and Dorcas. Remus was laughing along with them, Peter was talking to Donna, who seemed to like Mary a lot, and Alice was talking to Lily. Ninth wheeling, that's a new one. James thought bitterly.
''These nerds.'' A voice said beside him, and he turned to see Lily, her bright green eyes glinting, her lips in a smile and a blush on her cheeks.
''Yeah, too bad I love them.'' James said, and Lily laughed.
''Too bad. Hey, I'm having this party on Saturday night, want to come?" She asked, and James nodded. Of course he would come. When the person you love most asks you to pa party, you don't decline.
''Absolutely.'' He said, and then he got nervous. He really liked Lily. Really liked her. He was pretty sure he loved her. He wanted her to know that, too. So, he asked her. The question he had asked her all those times before, all those years ago. One simple question, and yet it took so much courage to ask.
''if I asked you out, what would you say?'' James asked, and Lily's cheeks went red. She coughed.
''I would say yes.'' She said after a few minutes of silence. James grinned.
