Chapter 22

                                    

                                          
"No you're not leaving me!" Pat moaned. Latching onto my arm.
                          
"Pat!" I laughed and gently slapped his hands away.
                          
"NO!!!" He relatched on. 
                          
"Really Pat, Come to the airport with me!" I asked for the millionth time. 
                          
"I'm coming don't worry Lani, but uh someone else wants to come too." He said unlatching himself and sitting on the couch. 
                          
"Pat. I can't do this, he's hurt me one too many times." I looked away. I knew what he gave up in his friendship with Jonny. 
                          
"I'm not going to push you, but please think about it from his point of view--"
                          
"What?! That he called me a whore and slut and then I fucking forgave him and he-he kissed me when he already has a girlfriend! I was kidding myself that he actually liked me," I ranted.
                          
Kaner looked miserable for a second before shaking it off, "Please just let him come." I took a deep breath,
                          
"Fine whatever," I smiled at Pat.

We got to O'Hare and Jonny met us there.  Before we got out of the car Pat turned to look at me in front seat, "Whatever you do, don't slap him okay? He's gotten enough press for playing horrible, and enough shit from the team for smelling like booze in the locker room." 
                          
I sighed, "I promise," I smiled at him and then we got out taking my bags with us. 
                          
Jonny grabbed the bags from Pat and got us into check-in. They traveled with me to security. Pat looked sadder and sadder and we got closer but, Jonny just closed his face off hardening his eyes. We got to the line and Pat was full out whimpering, "Hey I'm gonna miss you," I whispered to him grabbing his hand. He looked at me like a sad puppy his blue eyes glassy and teary. It was moving and we let people pass us.
                          
He hugged me tight, "I love you Lani, so much. You're my best friend in the world. I'll visit you okay?" He paused, "You better get that sexy Boston accent," He smiled sadly. I squeezed his hand.
                          
"Love you too Pattycakes," I smiled at him again. I moved onto Jonny, he looked down at me.
                          
"Lani--I'm sorry for everything and thanks for... everything," He said quietly. He hugged me, I could feel his heart beating fast. I wrapped my arms around him as I felt his breathing speed up, he sort of nuzzled into my neck. I felt his breath hitch and pull back.

On the plane I opened my carry-on and got my earbuds out, "Miss? You dropped this," The woman next to me said. I thanked her and looked at it, 
                          
Lani,
                          
I’ll wait for you.
