Dog days

Based on a tumblr prompt I found

All Lance wanted was an easy trip to a nice planet, but no. Of freaking course, he had to stumble into the wrong shop and get himself turned into a dog.

It seemed like a nice enough place. He and Keith had wandered into the shop looking for some weapons (well, Keith was anyway. Lance was there to support his boyfriend. Okay, they weren't dating, but let a boy dream) when Lance got distracted by some weird goo. He followed it until he got to the back of the store, where he saw two aliens stirring something. One looked up and saw Lance.

"Ah, can I help you, sir?" He asked. Lance awkwardly looked around.

"Nope! I was just... admiring some of your... lovely goo. Anyway, sorry for interrupting, but I really should be heading back now,"  Lance turned around and was about to leave when a hand on his shoulder stopped him.

Lance couldn't remember what happened very clearly. All he knows was that all of a sudden, he was a dog. Not even a normal dog, he was a red and blue dog. Probably because he piloted the blue lion and the red lion.

The man picked up Lance and Lance was snarling and growling. Boy, he had some harsh words to say. The man put Lance in Keith's arms saying "didn't you read the sign? No. Animals." And then proceeded to push Keith out the door.

Keith and Lance looked at each other.

"You're... you're not even my dog. I don't have a dog." Keith said, very confused. If a dog could huff, Lance did. Keith set the dog on the ground.

"Listen... I need to get my friend Lance. He's in there somewhere. Go... find your owner or something." Keith said. He walked back inside and talked to the manager, but Lance sat outside coming up with a way to let Keith know that 'Hey!!! That cute dog??? That's me, Lancey Lance!', but he can't in his current state, so that wasn't going to be easy.

Keith walked back outside, looking grumpy and worried. Lance stood up and walked over to him.

"What're you still doing here? Don't you have an owner or something?" Keith asked. Lance pawed at Keith's leg and whined. God, this was so weird.

Keith sighed.

"Fine. You can follow me, but I'm not keeping you. I have to find Lance, he wasn't in the store." Keith said. Lance wagged his tail and barked. Keith chuckled and patted his head... you know... this could be an interesting evening.

And that it was.

Keith went around asking people if they had seen Lance, all of them saying no. After a while, Keith sat on a bench tapping his foot. Lance jumped on the bench and laid on Keith's lap as a way to let him know that he wasn't alone. Also, he was hoping Keith could see that the dog was Lance.

Keith, of course, didn't know this. The fool.

"Why did he just run off?" Keith asked.

"I mean, it's not like I did something to anger him, right? All I did was ask if we could go into that shop. That couldn't be cause for running away. Maybe someone kidnapped him? No, Lance is too smart to fall for that, even if he won't admit it... do you think I could have done something?" Keith asked. Lance nodded his head as best he could.
"I don't think I could forgive myself if he ran away because of me. I've already lost too many people I care about and I don't want to lose Lance. Even Shiro left. Well, he was teleported away and now he's back... although, something just doesn't feel right... but he still left." Keith admitted.

Lance barked.

"Hey... you're a dog... do you think if I give you something that smells like Lance you could find him?" Keith asked. Lance jumped up and barked happily. Keith reached into his backpack and pulled out Lance's sweater.
"Listen, dog. The reason I have his sweater is that... just in case he got cold... not because I like the smell of it or... anything... ugh, just track him." Keith said. He put the sweater in front of Lance's face and Lance took a big whiff just for show.

Lance jumped off the bench and calmly walked into town, Keith right behind him.

"Can't you go faster?" Keith asked. Lance stopped and turned his head to glare at Keith. Keith put his hands up.

"Sorry, sorry. Take your time almighty warrior." Keith sarcastically said as he put his hands down. Lance nodded and continued walking until they got to the shop from earlier. Keith sighed.

"Dog, we can't go in there," Keith said. Lance growled and ran into the door, knocking it over. He ran into the back room and growled at the manager.
"Dog! What're you doing!?" Keith shouted.

"Hey, get your fucking dog out of my store! Now!" The manager yelled. Lance growled and walked towards the manager slowly. Keith tilted his head.

"Why are you acting that way? Did... did he do something to Lance?" He asked. Lance looked back and Keith and nodded the best a dog could. Keith grabbed his dagger and held it up to the manager's throat.
"Where. Is. Lance?" Keith demanded. The manager was starting to look nervous, so he put his hands up in a surrendering way.

"Okay! Okay! I'll change him back!" The manager yelled. Keith lowered his knife.

"Change him back?" He questioned. The manager sighed and grabbed a bottle filled with purple goo and poured it over Lance. Lance transformed back into a human and lunged at the manager, but Keith held him back.
"Wait, you were the dog the whole time!?" Keith asked. Lance nodded.

"Yeah, because this asshole decided to experiment on me! Why do you think I didn't leave your side?" Lance asked.

"Okay... that makes a little sense... come on, I don't want you ripping out this guy's throat. Let's go." Keith said.

"Keith, if you were in my place, you'd want to rip this guy's throat out too!" Lance protested.

"Okay, you're right, but we're not here to hurt anyone, remember? This was supposed to be a relaxing day." Keith reminded Lance. Lance glared at the manager and stomped out of the store, Keith trailing behind him.

"I mean, of all the things to turn me into, a dog? Why not a big cat? Cats are kind of our thing, aren't they?" Lance asked. Keith put his hand on Lance's shoulder.

"I'm just glad you're okay. I was super worried." Keith said. Lance smiled.

"Yeah, I know. Also... you know that I would never run away from you, right? If I get mad at you for something, the worst I'll do is go to my room. You weren't an inconvenience to me for wanting to go into the store. I went to the store because you seemed so excited to see what kind of weapons they had there." Lance told Keith.

"Yeah, and the weapons weren't even that great," Keith added. Lance laughed.

"Exactly! Plus, I mean, they turned me into a dog. I have no problem with dogs, but seriously. Our things are cats and lions. They could have at least stuck to the branding." Lance added. Keith and Lance talked for a while, arms around each other.

Man. That was one crazy day.

Ugh, the ending kind of sucks, but endings are so hard for me. Whatever. Anyway, like I said, I do not own this idea, it was based on a post I found on the tumblings.

Stay awesome my fabulous t-rexs!
