It was almost a week later when the doctor came back in to ask for my decision.
"You're an adult now Ivy, you need to make your own decisions." He told me, his patience growing thinner.
"I just need some time." I explained, my mind twisting and turning between two options.
"I'll give you until the 15th May. That will give us enough time to make sure the bloods tested." It seemed reasonable. The guys would be back in the UK so maybe I would get to see them. When the doctor left I got out a notebook I had been saving in my clothes draw and began to write in it. After a while, I finished it and put it back knowing I probably wouldn't pick it up again ever but I didn't mind.
The fairy Godmothers came in the next day with a camera as part of my wish. "To carry on with that album." Mary told me before leaving. It was a cannon 1100D with a 36GB memory card, so yeah I was going to fill a book with this. Almost immediately, I made my way to the seventh floor and walked over to the balcony where a nurse June was standing.
"Hey Ivy!"June said as I flicked on the camera. (I want to point out that I had read the instruction booklet before going up to the garden as I wouldn't of stood a chance working that thing!)
"Whatcha doing?" She asked as I snapped a couple of pictures of the skyline. "Trying to fill a photo album." The blue sky was a refreshing colour from the recent grey we had over London. "Good day for it, the suns come out." She commented, moving so I could get a better shot. I checked the photos before asking for a picture with her. She smiled and nodded before throwing her arm around my neck. She was in her early thirties but it was her wild bush of red curls that made her look 25. June was always fun and sassy towards the kids in the ward but she mostly worked in operating brain tumours so I didn't see her much. "Awesome, thanks!" I yelled before running back inside. Then I took a picture of anything that I liked or any people who I knew and got on with. Yes, that was more than three people!
I lay on my bed feeling my eyes drooping when my phone went off.
Jack: Hey you still up? x
I smiled slightly and rolled over, feeling butterflies in my stomach.
Me- Just about:) x
Jack- Shit, go back to sleep! Sorry:P x
Me- You sure? x
I was pretty tired but that wasn't unusual. When I was first put on the drugs I slept for about 14 hours a day!
Jack- Yeah, night Ivy:3 x
Me- Night Jack :) x
I rolled over with my phone still in my hand. I fell asleep pretty quickly but I woke up with my hand still clutched to my phone.
For the next week it was a similar routine, each day the nurses asking me if I had made a decision and each day I told them no. It was a 50/50 choice. Continue taking the pills until my body can't take it any longer. Or, go and have a blood transplant that may or may not kill me. My odds weren't great, but better than others.
