She looked down

She looked down. Reminiscing on the times they'd shared. The hot water she bathed in now cold, her moments with him now beginning to feel like memories. Four days felt like four years and it was then she realised she'd become too fond of his presence; more than she wanted to be.

In those four days Emerald fought the urge to go out and meet him, she stayed inside instead. The young woman knew that he'd be roaming every street they'd been just in search of her. She felt a sense of relief in staying behind closed doors, that way she didn't have to explain the her sudden need of space. But she also felt a large pang of guilt at her chest. Knowing that if he'd done the same to her, she would lose it.

As Emerald hopped out of the bath and dried herself she thought to herself how hard this really was. It was either stay with Lance and disappoint her mother, or ignore Lance and his existence; maintaining the approval and relationship she had with her mother.

"But Lance.." Her low voice cracked as a tear rolled down her cheek. She brought her towel to her eyes as she sobbed for a bit. She needed to. She'd remained too reserved and quiet about the situation for the past few days.

Lance didn't care if she was upset with him, or whatever the situation may have been; he needed to see her and now. With less than 3 days in Barbados, his bags packed and flights booked he was ready. But he wasn't leaving the islands this incomplete; he needed to thank her for simply existing. He needed to thank her for giving him a new mindset to life and showing him what happiness is, even though it was all temporary.

Why was she hiding her presence? Why was she suddenly being distant? What have I done?

Why was she hiding her presence? Why was she suddenly being distant? What have I done?

Sat on the edge of his bed, he thought to himself as he sighed and ran a hand over his face.

"Where are you, Emerald.." He whispered to himself.

If only he knew where she lived, where her best friend hung around. He'd asked almost every bystander at the beach, in hopes that they would be her family but it was not of good use.

After a couple of minutes he decided he couldn't stress himself like this. It didn't make sense, he'd done nothing wrong and he wasn't going to beat himself up for it.

It's funny how things change. Lance was never a chaser and what Emerald was doing to him was exactly why he never pursued women to a serious degree. He never understood them and their mind-games.

He began to pack more of his belongings as he shook his head at the realisation; he'd just been played. She had toyed with him.

He laughed softly to himself as he furrowed his eyebrows.

"And to think I was convinced she was different.."
