I ran downstairs, running late for school.
"What took you so long?" Jax asked me. I sighed, grabbing an apple, facing him.
"I was on the phone with Nate. I lost track of time." I explained. He nodded.
"What did y'all talk about?" Lukus asked, shoving me slightly.
"Personal things." I smirked. He chuckled, as we heard a honk.
"Uh huh. Okay." He joked, grabbing his backpack and racing outside. I rolled my eyes, getting my cheer bag. It was friday, and our second game of the season. I ran out after Luke and Jax came behind us. Luke climbed into the backseat of Brody's car and I got in the passenger as Jax got in the back with Luke.
"Hey cheerleader!" Brody exclaimed. I grinned, punching his arm.
"Hey quarterback!" I said. He smiled. Backing out. "Ready for the big game against our rivals?" I asked him. He chuckled nodding.
"Always." He said, grinning. "I forgot to ask you. How was your date?" He asked me a little quieter. His face he dropped slightly. He wasn't as happy anymore, and his dark brown eyes, weren't as bright anymore.
"It was good. He took me on a walk, then he told me he loved me, then I kissed him." I said, staring at my lap. All he did was nod in response. After that, it was silent. No one spoke, and it was uncomfortable. We drove up to the school and I was climbing out when Brody called my name. I faced him, and he looked me dead in the eyes. My brothers were already headed to the school.
"Yeah?" I asked, sitting back down. He watched me and we stayed silent.
"I can see past your wall Zoey. It may not be think, but it's there. You try to act all focused on your studies, and like you don't want a boyfriend, but I see past that. I see the funny, kind, lighthearted girl, who loves to have fun and loves to be around those she loves." He admitted. I didn't do anything, but stared into his chocolate brown eyes that had truth all in them in. I took a deep breath, knowing he was right. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and he wrapped his around my back.
"And I see past yours. You act like this big football player, who doesn't care what people think, and don't care about school. But in reality you're this little softy who cares about everyone and their thoughts. Who want to get good grades and impress you father. I see past your tall wall, and I like the boy on the other side." I said. He grinned slightly, knowing what I meant.
"But let's got to this giant pep rally!" I exclaimed, jumping from the car. He laughed, following me. He shoved at my arm, sending me falling to the ground. I dropped my bag, about to hit the ground. I closed my eyes as my body hit the concrete.
"Zoey! I'm sorry!" Brody said, holding his hand out for me to take. I was about to grab it when, I was lifted from the ground.
"Woah there girlie." I heard. I turned around to see Nathan standing there.
"Nate!" I exclaimed, hugging him.
"Surprise!" He grinned, kissing my lips. "Hey Brody." He waved. Brody waved, as his face, seemed to be less happy once again.
"I should go. The team is probably waiting." He muttered, walking away. I took Nathan's hand in mine and intertwined our fingers, walking into my school. We entered, and the place seemed to buzz with excitement. Maria and Baley came up to me as I made my way to the gym for breakfast. Baley was supposed to have detention, but after everything was explained, it was dropped and now she could cheer with us.
"Nate!" Maria exclaimed, confused.
"Hey sis." He smirked.
"You left for college this morning." She said, trying to piece everything together.
