 "Alright now count to 10"

I didn't even make it past four.

---

My head was fuzzy, vision blurred, forehead damp- I woke up. The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was a pink blur, that blur turned into a face that I was all too happy to see. My lips curled into a smile and, with the little energy I had, I held out my hand. Zane grasped it, giving it two light squeezes before my vision became blurry again.

---

When I woke up again, he was sitting in the exact same spot, hand still held tightly in mine. I had no concept of time. The pain killers were starting to wear off. A sharp, aching, burning pain met my left hip. My vision became clear, I looked around and saw body connected to various machines. A large gauze was taped over the incision, a single blotch of red poking through the material. Zane said something, but I couldn't completely comprehend it, so I simply just nodded.

My doctor entered the room and asked me to rate my pain on a scale from one to ten. "Eight" I could barely understand myself. A nurse injected something into one of the IVs in my arm and the pain started to wear off almost instantly. At the same time, however, I felt my mind become fuzzy once more.

"I love you. I love you so much" I mumbled, squeezing Zane's hand two times.

"I love you too" He held back a chuckle. My body was becoming more relaxed as my eyelids became heavier with every second that passed by. Before I drifted off again, three words escaped from my lips,

"Let's get married"
