They're not talking the next day. Aga volunteered to drop Gale by her school and fetch her on the afternoon. Lea just nodded and kissed her daughter goodbye.
She had tears in her eyes again. Why does Aga keep on cheating on her? They have been together for who-knows-how-many-years and they even have a daughter. How can he still cheat on her?
And how will she explain this to their daughter?
She shakes her head. She should have gotten used to this because this case isn't new to her. This had happened to them even before they got married.
"Lea, someone wants to talk to you." it was Dawn who slightly opened the door of her office.
She wiped her tears and nodded, "Okay. Send that person in."
As soon as she saw her, her eyes squinted. She didn't move.
"Ms.--Mrs. Muhlach." Andrea, the doctor stated.
She put down her pen and closed the folder, "What are you doing here?"
"We have to talk."
"Anong pag-uusapan natin? Na maghiwalay--"
Andrea kept calm and sighed, "I am Andrea Rio, a neurologist from St. Luke's Hospital."
She raised her eyebrow.
"I am not you husband's mistress. I am his doctor."
She gulped and blinked several times. "Doctor?"
That's when she absorbed how she introduced herself. She is a neurologist. And Aga's doctor. Why does Aga need a neurologist?
"We are not cheating on you. You husband's disease is."
She shook her head, "I-I d-don't understand." she gulped, "Take a seat."
"Thank you." Andrea sat down.
"What were you saying earlier?"
Andrea bit her lips and sighed before starting off, "I met Aga three weeks ago. He went to my office to have a consultation. He told me that he keeps on forgetting things, dates, events and simple stuff. He thought at first it was sign of aging but as the days pass by, he feels that it wasn't aging. It was something serious than that."
She didn't speak.
"We have done series of tests after a week. And I told him to observe himself. And then a week ago, we've found out that your husband is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. However, it isn't that severe yet. According to what is happening to him, he is already on the 4th stage. To give you a brief information of what alzheimer's is--" she shows her a chart. "It is a disease that tends to develop slowly and gradually worsens over several years. If you have noticed. Madalas nakakalimutan ni Aga 'yong mga bagay-bagay. Maybe, his alzheimer's has developed a year ago pero hindi lang gaano malala."
She had to cover her mouth to keep herself from weeping. Her tears are already continuosly falling down.
"Sa ngayon, iilang memories pa lang ang nawawala kay Aga. Nagiging makakalimutin lang siya. He'd forget where things are placed, what date it is today and other stuff connected to his daily activities and routine. I hate to say this, Lea but..."
She gulped.
"If his alzheimer's worsens, he might forget who he is, his background. And--" she sighed. "He might also forget people including you and... your daughter."
That's when she had lost her strength to keep herself and stop herself from crying. It wasn't simply crying. Her shoulders are already moving up and down, her tears are rolling down continuously. She isn't that dumb. She knows what alzheimer's is. It doesn't have a cure. That means one thing.
