We had spent an hour talking about our lives and catching up with my family. I now know that Hayley is a straight A student, is interested in politics, and enjoys writing in her free time. On the other hand Caitlyn is more into fashion like Mom and wants to be a model. The two siblings were very different but they still loved each other and I wish I can someday be a part of that.
"Jane, um I was wondering and only if you want to, would you like to change your name back to Juliet Zamora?" Mom asks and I stare at her wide eyed. Juliet Zamora, that would've been my real name.
I look over at Adrian and gives me a supporting smile letting me know that he'll support my decision no matter what it is.
I stare at my hands in deep thought and look up before answering, "I was given the name Jane Hamilton at the orphanage, and although I knew the people there weren't my family I embraced the name as if it were given by my real family. I'd love to change my name back to Juliet Zamora, trust me I would—but the name I was given reminds me of who I am and who I've become, I've gotten used to it and Juliet is foreign to me, it's someone I never got to be, it just brings back bad memories. I hope you can understand."
My parents look up at me and nod understandingly.
"At least think about it," Hayley insists. "It would be nice knowing that other people know you are a Zamora like me, that you are my sister. If not your full name then just the last name. You are a Zamora, Jane."
I nod and give her a smile.
"Maybe she doesn't want to change her name because she knows she isn't your real daughter mom." Caitlyn answers causing me to look at her with hurt. "The doctors told you Juliet was dead why would they lie about that?! Maybe she is the one lying just so she can inherit your fortune!"
"Caitlyn don't insult your sister like that!" Mom answers.
I swallowed the lump in my throat as I stared at Caitlyn with watery eyes.
"Unless I get a DNA test proving you are my sister then you are just a stranger to me." Caitlyn stated before walking out.
"Caitlyn come back here!" Mom called out before going after her.
"I''m really sorry about her outburst." My dad apologizes and I nod.
I take in a deep breathe before answering, "I'll give her the DNA test she wants, maybe then we all know for sure."
Hayley walks over to me and places her hand over mine as she hands me a smile.
"I know that you are my sister, not because you look like me but because I can feel it." I hand her a smile before she engulfs me into a hug.
"I'm so sorry, hopefully your mom can talk some sense into her." Dad states. "I'll schedule the appointment for the test and call you when it's ready."
I nod as I say goodbye to them and Adrian leads us out of the restaurant. Outside I find mom lecturing Caitlyn and I just get into the car with Adrian.
"You okay?" He asks with concern.
I look over at him as a tear rolls down my cheek, "I know my parents aren't dead, we just met and they already want me to change my name, and my sister doesn't even believe we are relate. So yeah, I'm great."
