"I did it because-" A loud knocking interrupted your brother, causing your head to snap towards the door. You gave your brother a 'this-is-not-over' look before walking over to the old white door and opening it halfway.
"Oh. Jay... what are you doing over here?" You asked, eyeing his camera.
"I just just heard some yelling over here and wanted to see if everything was okay?" He replied, causing you to nod slightly.
"Yeah, oh, yeah. Everything is... fine. My brother and I were having a small argument, that's all." You assured him, sending a small glare towards your bro.
"Oh, well, sorry to disturb you then." Jay said awkwardly.
"It's fine, it's probably best we put a pause on this anyways." You said. "While you're here, what time is it?"
"It just turned six am." Jay replied, checking his watch.
"Oh, uh, sorry." You said, rubbing the back of your neck.
"It's fine, really." Jay replied. "Are you her brother?" He asked, turning to Lawlie.
"Yeah. I'm Lawlie, are you the 'Jay' I've heard so much about?" Lawlie asked, holding his hand out toward Jay. Jay took the hand and nodded.
"Yes. Do you mind if I ask (y/n) something, it's kind of private." Jay asked, hinting for Lawlie to leave. Lawlie nodded and slowly walked out of the room, sending a wink your way. You rolled your eyes and sat on the bed, Jay soon following suit.
"What's up?" You asked once Lawlie left the room. Knowing him though, you knew he was listening in on the conversation.
"I just wanted to ask if you've seen anything strange? You know, like random people dressed up in masks or something...?" Jay asked. You almost laughed at how unsubtle he was being. You almost said 'no', when you realized that if you told him you had seen people in masks, he might involve you in his searches more often, giving you more chances to gain his trust and eventually... kill... him? For some odd reason, you felt a slight twinge in your chest at the thought of murdering him and the others. It wasn't abnormal for you to feel guilty about causing the death of another, but this was different. You had just met them, but... nevermind. 'It's probably just me getting clingy. It's been awhile since I've talked to someone other than my brother, that's probably it. Nothing more, nothing less.' You decided, gulping down the lump in your throat before finally giving Jay an answer.
"Actually... yes. I thought I was the only one, but I saw someone with a mask while walking through the woods, and another coming out of a house." You lied through your teeth. "The one in the woods had a white mask with black features, and the other was black and red and had a half smile half frown carved into it. And then there was a tall, faceless man wearing a suit just standing there. Crazy, right?"
"What were they doing?" Jay asked quickly.
"I don't know- running, I guess. I've actually been doing some investigations on them, but it's a bit scary on my own." You said, hoping he'd take the bait.
"Me too." You sighed in relief. "If you want we could go together." He added, hope shining in his eyes.
"Perfect!" You exclaimed, pretty much failing at containing your excitement for getting a step ahead in your mission. "I mean, uh, where?" You corrected yourself.
"What? Oh, well, I thought we could go to the Rosswood trails. Do you know where they are?" Jay asked.
"Yeah, my brother's house is over there actually, I've went hiking there too so I know the place pretty well." You said with a small smirk. He was falling for it. All you had to do was lure him into the forest, and wait for the Operator's orders. You were certain that the Operator would give you the order to kill him once you got him there, it was too good of an opportunity to miss, right? Right...
"Great. Does noon today work for you?" Jay asked, interrupting your thoughts.
"Yeah, no problem."
