Over the past few weeks I have really bonded with Rin, and Jaken doesn't bug me about 'respecting Lord Sesshomaru' ever since I decided to give him a zap to put him in his place. My powers have no doubt improved greatly since I've met Sesshomaru. We've come across a number of demons in the short time I've been traveling with him. Despite him being intolerably rude, he is surprisingly wise. Not wise enough to pick up any manners, but it seems he's a slow learner in that respect. I want him to acknowledge me and just how powerful I've become. The way he looks down on me is so insulting, it drives me crazy.
"Lady (y/n) can we go down to the river?" Rin asks brightly.
"Of course, go tell Sesshomaru that we're leaving." I say with a sweet smile.
Rin runs to Sesshomaru, while all I can think of is how much I dislike him. He treats Jaken better than me. If this was really about me being 'weak' he would at least treat me with some respect after our little 'battle'.
As Rin and I walk to the river, clouds draw in and it begins to rain. When we arrive at the riverbank the rain has become significantly more violent. Rin wastes no time laying her kimono on the rocks and jumping straight into the water. I undo my kimono and lay it on top of Ron's. I slowly submerge myself in the water while Rin splashes around trying to find fish. I float gently on my back with the rain pouring down onto my chest. This is nice. Thunder echos through the forest, it reminds me of father. As the storm gets worse, Rin seems less and less energetic.
"Lady (y/n), the storm is getting really bad. I'm scared" Rin says.
"Do you want to go?"
"Yes Lady (y/n), please"
Rin and I exit the water and try our best to get as dry as we can. I picked up my damp kimono and tossed it around my shoulders. I was happy to see that piling my clothes on top of hers had kept them mostly dry. I finished tying the obi on Rin's kimono as she wrung out her hair. As soon as she was dressed she ran for cover from the rain at the edge of the treeline a few feet away. I kept my eyes on her as I put my arms through my sleeves. As I turned to grab my obi, I found myself face to face with my reflection in the cold river water. Empty thoughts of isolation and disappointment begin to fill my head. My thoughts are interrupted when I hear Rin call Sesshomaru's name.
"Lord Sesshomaru!"
"What has been taking the two of you so long, Lord Sesshomaru should have left the both of you behind!" Said Jaken.
I turn to look, pulling my kimono to cover me. Sesshomaru's gaze meets mine, and for a while I thought he was quite beautiful in the rain.
I tied the obi to my wet kimono and ran to catch up with Rin and Sesshomaru. We walked quite a ways after the sun had set, but soon we reached a decent place to sleep. Rin and Jaken went to get fire wood while Sesshomaru and I sat across from one another.
"Why didn't you say something about your clothing being wet?" Sesshomaru asked suddenly.
"I- Well I didn't think much of it."
"The last thing I need is you falling ill, that would slow me down even more." He maintained his ever present tone of indifference, although I could see something behind it.
What is this? The mighty demon Sesshomaru concerned with the health of a weak little human?
"No need to worry yourself, I'm perfectly fine... Now that you mention it, I guess I should dry my clothes by the fire." I joke, half serious. The unserious part was in my tone, a suggestive tease simply to get a reaction. Why should my blood be the only one to boil?
Rin and Jaken came back and the thick air was filled with silence. Sesshomaru gave me an un-approving glare. I guess my goal was achieved, then. Good.
Burn in it dog-boy, MWAHAHA!
Once the firewood was placed in the pit, and the fire started, Rin placed her head on Sesshomaru's lap and went to sleep. I was surprised that he let her, but their relationship never ceases to amaze me. Jaken and A-Un had fallen asleep on the other side of the fire by Sesshomaru who had fallen asleep about half an hour ago, he's probably exhausted from all of the suspicious stuff that he leaves to do during the daytime. How did Rin get along without me? I bet he would just leave her in the forest with only Jaken to protect her. It's sick. I shouldn't even be here, I would have left long ago if it weren't for Rin, she reminds me of my mother to be honest. I hope that she grows up to be just like mother, caring, kind yet hard-headed, and strong.
The storm from earlier has calmed down quite a bit, but the rain is still drizzling. Under the protection of the trees no rain falls on us, but the faint sound is soothing. I walk over to A-Un and grab the blanket that's usually under his saddle from the pile where his tack lays. Setting it down next to me, I kneel down and undress quietly, trying not to wake anyone up. My, still wet, kimono laid spread out over the saddle by the fire and the blanket wrapped around me. I got up to walk towards the river when my eyes caught two speckles of gold.
Sesshomaru's tired, sleep seduced, eyes made contact with mine. Caught in a state of undress, I couldn't help but fell my cheeks flush. I looked away quickly, nervously. My swords lay in their sheath at the foot of the tree where I had sat, I grabbed them hastily as I scurried off towards the river.
I set the blanket and swords on the large rock I had used before. The river calls to me, drawing me in. All day since, I craved a semblance of the peace it had brought me. The water is colder than before, but I enter the water with little hesitation. The soft current swept past me as if I were a strong stone that belonged there, eroding my tough exterior.
I wish that Naraku never had existed. My father would still be alive, and I wouldn't have had to put up with Sesshomaru's pathetic judgement. But then I would still be powerless, and Rin would probably be dead somewhere. Still, I can't help but miss my father, he was brave, smart, kind, and scary all at the same time.
My attention is quickly diverted from my thoughts to the sudden warmth of the water.
What the hell is happening?
Out of nowhere a bolt of lightning struck the water and lit up the river, it should have startled me, but it felt so... familiar? A bright wave of light flew down stream. I could hear the faint sound of my father's voice on the wind, it was almost as if he was whispering "Stay" as the breeze brushed against my face.
