Something To Fight For

I slowly came out of the shock. Once I did, I tore apart my room looking for the wilderness sirvival book Coulson had given me last year for Christmas. When I finally found it, I picked it up delicately, like it was made of the most precious glass. I opened it and looked at the inside cover where Coulson had neatly written a Merry Christmas message and signed his name.

I slowly shut the book and placed it by my bed. I looked at the clock. It had been two hours since the battle. Some one knocked on the door of my room.

"Come in," I called out. The door opened, and Dad walked in. In a split second I grabbed the gun on my nightstand, and pointed it at him. A heart broken look passed across his face.

"Kendra, it's me. It is really me." I dropped my gun and ran into a hug. New tears came to my face. Good tears, tears of joy, for the first time in a long.

"Dad, I thought you might die," I mumbled, not making a move to break the hug. He stroked my messy hair away from my forehead.

"I am so sorry." Dad told me softly. Those four words were an apology for so many things.

"I almost killed you." I choked on the words as I said them.

"It wasn't me," Dad assured me. He reluctantly broke the hug.

"Fury wants you to report to the conference room." Dad looked at me with pity.

I nodded and walked out the door. When I arrived at the conference room, Stark and Captian America were sitting at the table. Agent Maria Hill was standing off to the side and Director Fury was standing in front of the table. No one said anything as I sat down. Fury didn't look at me as be tossed a few vintage superhero trading cards onto the table.

"These were found in Coulson's jacket. I guess he never did get you to sign them." Fury looked pointedly at Steve. I knew Coulson didn't have those on him when he died. He always kept them in his locker, but it still effected me.

"We are dead in the air up here. Are communication, Banner, Thor. I've got nothing for you, but one good eye." I looked down sadly at Fury's words.

"Yes we were going to build an arsenal with the tessrract. There was an idea, Stark knows this. Kendra has probably guessed. Called the avengers initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, and see if they could become something more. To work together when we needed them to, when we never could. Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea." I winced as the words passed through me ears. Coulson, died.

"Believing in heros." My chest felt like it was collapsing. Stark got up and was about to walk away.

"Coulson was an idiot for going after Loki with out alot of backup like that," Stark said. Anger surged up and I jumped up and lunged at Stark. Before I could punch him Maria grabbed me and held me back.

"How dare you." I spat. Stark looked at me and continued walking away. Fury looked around.

"I guess it was an old fashioned idea." Fury sat down sadly. Steve walked away as well.

Maria finally let me go. I walked away. I didn't know where I was walking. I didn't know why I was walking. I just was. I ended up on the roof of the hellicarier. I lay back, and stared at the sky. I looked at a dot in the sky. I thought it was just a sun spot, but the spot for bigger and bigger, then it turned into an owl. The owl perched on my shoulder and pecked at my head.

"Get off." I tried to shoe it away, but I noticed it had a letter in its class. The owl was Hedwig. I pulled the letter out of her claws.

Kendra,

We are all very worried about you. Dumbledor and Professor Mcgonagall will not acknowledge you left. If you can, let us know what happened.

Hermione

I dropped the letter on the ground because I just couldn't bring myself to care. Compared to all that has happened and will happen if I had friends or not didn't seem to matter, but wether or not Hedwig died of exhaustion did matter. I set Hedwig on a window edge and stared at the passing clouds. With a last look at Hedwig, ans the beautiful sun set the just came out, I walked back into the base, then into my room. The next morning I headed first thing to tje Control Room.

Inside the Control Room stood Mom, Dad, Steve and Stark. They were all in fight geer. They were talking and looking at screens.

"What have you found out?" I questioned as I walked into the room.

"The Diva will be using my tower to open a portal. Reports of aliens are already coming in." I took in this information. Steve looked incredulously at Tony.

"You mean the "Diva" will be using your tower with your name in neon red on it," Steve commented. I choked on a laugh and left to get ready.

"Meet us at the usual helicopter when you are ready."Dad smiled to hide his worry. This battle was going to be big, and it was going to be messy. We also didn't know where Thor or Dr. Banner was at the moment. Now I was the only person with magic like powers we had.

I was already in my shield combat uniform. I went to the weapons room down the hall. There was a well stalked wealone room on every floor. I loaded up methodically. I armed myself with many guns, throwing knives and my wand. I may have loaded a few to many weapons, but you could never be to careful.

Loki had had killed Coulson, and he almost killed my father and I, along with many SHIELD agents. Now he was trying to invade my world. He had to be stopped. I would do everything I could to stop Loki forever, because Coulson couldn't.
