Recap:
As I walk the wolf suddenly stops. I don't realise this until I am a few metres ahead of the wolf. He barks and whines, pacing on the spot.
I turn and face it. "What?" I ask, confused.
The wolf nods at the ground, barking quietly again.
"Jessie's territory?" I guess.
He nods, seeming to frown with another smaller sound.
"Well... bye I guess." I shrug, before turning around and walking away.
The wolf barks once, before turning and darting back off.
I walk back to Jessie's house with my head hung in thought and my hands stuffed in my pocket.
My thoughts return to the conversation I had with Jessie's pack. Werewolves, mates, Alpha's, it's all so confusing yet easy to understand. Confusing, right?
Right.
(Destiny's POV)
I open the door to Jessie's mansion as quietly as I can, not wanting to wake anyone up. I sit in the lounge room, realising that I don't have anywhere to sleep. I could always sleep on the sofa, but I'm not really tired.
I fold my legs under me.
I hear commotion from the kitchen, and Jessie walks out only wearing pyjama pants. He has two glasses of water in his hand, and he silently gives me one. He must have heard me come in, even though I've been as quiet as I can.
I drink some of the water.
"You reek like wolf." Jessie finally says, sitting across from me.
I don't say anything, tracing the rim of the glass with a finger.
"What colour was the wolf?" he asks.
"Red." I answer. "Why do I smell like him?" I ask without looking up.
"He scented you." Jessie says.
"Huh?"
"It's a werewolves' natural instinct. It's when a male swipes someone or something with his scent, claiming it as his. Pretty much it's a way to declare that person or object as his, warning off all the other males." Jessie says.
My eyebrows raise a little, but I still don't look up. "Ok?" So that's what the wolf was doing when he kept rubbing his head against me.
"Seems like someone has taken a liking to you, Destiny." Jessie says. I can hear the smile in his voice.
I frown at that. "Strange."
Jessie stays silent for a moment. "You should try to sleep, Destiny." He says, standing up and leaving the now empty glass on the table.
"Where am I sleeping?"
"The spare room has been set up for you." He says.
I nod, downing my glass in one gulp and putting my glass next to his. I stand and let Jessie lead me up to my room. "So how do I get the scent off me?" I ask.
Jessie looks at me out of the corner of his eye. "You don't."
Jessie was anxious while driving me to my home. I needed fresh clothes. I sneak a look at Jessie through the curtains of my orange hair. He is tense, his knuckles white on the steering wheel. I never noticed it before, but now that I think about it he is always like that.
