Angie and Jesse -- Short Story 15

••••••••••••••••

"Hey, Jesse?" I called my boyfriend of 4 years from the room over, "Are you busy?"

"Need help?" He came sauntering in.

"Please?"

"Course." He grinned, instantly making me forget my anxiety; for a moment, anyways. "What do you want me to do?"

"Well, I have a paper due tomorrow and I haven't started and I'm pretty much screwed, plus I need to start packing for our move and I haven't even started sorting everything and I have to-"

"Breathe, Ang." Jesse put his hands on my shoulders, "Just stay calm, alright?"

"Right, calm." I breathed, mentally making a list of what needed to be done.

"How about I finishing packing my things while you start your paper?"

Agreeing, I set off for our small, but useable, dining room to grab my laptop I had left on the table.

Passing our standard apartment kitchen, I noticed Jesse had been in the middle of sorting our appliances and dishes.

We moved into this apartment straight out of high school after dealing with so much nonsense back home.

Leaving everything behind us, Jesse and I started university together and have been doing well for the past 2 years.

We have the typical relationship background-- we started as best friends and after a usual Friday night out with Jesse, he told me it was a date when he dropped me off.. It all started with him building me a fort-- which I love. We've been together for the past 4 years since then.

"Ang?" Jesse yelled for me, "Should I start a box for your stuff or just leave it?"

"Start a box, thanks!" I called back, knowing he had most likely already started one and my 'no' would be ignored.

Snatching up my laptop from the dining room table, I caught sight of a purple sticky note sticking out.

Opening my laptop to see it, I realized it was a note from Jesse.

Ang, smile. Once we move everything will be okay again.

Love, Jesse

Laughing, I shook my head and stuck it inside my notebook. Jesse has been leaving me notes since we started dating and I've kept them all.

What? They make me smile.

"Jesse," I didn't wait for a reply, "You're so cheesy."

"What did I do now?" Jesse snuck up behind me, as usual.

"I'm going to have a heart attack one of these days, I swear." I shook off the fear, "You're so cheesy for leaving me these." I waved my notebook of notes around.

"But I love you." He wrapped his arms around me.

"I know you do." I laughed.

"Not gonna say it back today?" He smirked.

"You should know me by now." I grinned, knowing he knows full well I love him back.

"I might think you're only playing me one of these days, Angie Wells." He let go of me.

"I've thought that of you for years, Jesse McKay." I said over my shoulder, walking down the hallway to our study room.

Jesse is a good looking guy-- and I'm not just saying that. I dealt with jealous girls the last two years of high school when we started dating. A few times I was jealous, but for other reasons.
