Damon had my hand in his from the second we got off his bike.
As the waiter seated us, I could feel the butterflies in my stomach act up again. It's crazy to be so nervous and excited to be eating dinner alone with Damon, I mean we do it pretty regularly - but now the intention is so much more intense. Deliciously so.
The waiter left us once we were seated in our usual corner booth. I looked up from the menu to see Damon already looking at me, I couldn't help smiling at him.
"So how are you doing Silvia?"
"Honestly? It's been a hell of a few days, but I'm surprisingly great right now. How about you Damon?"
Damon smirks at me, "I've never been better actually"
I look back down at the menu to hid the embarrassing blush on my cheeks, and I can't help but want to ask a question that doesn't seem like first date material.
I realize I must have been thinking pretty hard when Damon interrupts my thoughts, "Silvia what did I say earlier? Us being together doesn't mean you can't share anything with me."
"How did you even know what I was thinking?"
"I've known you for a long time Silvia - spill. Nothing's off limits, not with me at least"
"Well it's just...if you've felt like this towards me for so long were you really going to let me marry Dean without saying anything? Before the whole him being actually alive, and a scumbag part of course"
Damon chuckles as I rush out the last part of my question, "Silvia your happiness has always meant everything to me - so back then when Dean made you happy yes of course I would have let you two get married; because no matter how painful it would have been to watch, seeing you happy has always been worth more to me."
I can't help my eyes from watering slightly, "Wow Damon, that's beautiful - are you sure I'm the one who deserves you?"
Damon reaches across the table to take my hand in his, "Silvia you have always been it for me, always have been and always will be. Don't doubt that - please"
I smile and nod, not trusting that my voice won't crack.
"Good" Our waiter comes back to take our order, and I see Damon's features harden slightly - and I realize that not everyone gets to see the side of Damon that I get to see, and I'm grateful for it.
Dinner continues without a hitch and being with Damon feels so right. After we finished eating Damon asked for the bill.
"But what about dessert? We always at least split a tiramisu"
Damon smirked, "Silvia I have something special planned for dessert tonight"
I smirk at Damon, "And here I thought we were taking things slow"
Damon tried to hide his grin, "Behave - that's not what I meant"
Damon paid the bill and led me back to his motorcycle, we hoped on and rode towards the very familiar Rattlesnake point.
As Damon pulls up I see that the picnic bench at the top of the point has a table cloth on it with a silver platter in the middle of the table with a lid covering whatever is inside. Damon helps me off the bike and we sit at the table.
"This is really nice Damon"
"You haven't even seen what I have for dessert yet - voila" Damon lifts the lid to reveal a cake, but not just any cake. It looks exactly like the cake my mom would make for me for all of my birthdays.
"Oh my gosh Damon, how did you do this?" It was silly to get emotional over a cake but my mom hadn't been alive to make it for ten years.
"Believe it or not, I'm not a complete fool in the kitchen - I know you've missed your moms cooking over the years so I did my research and had to try several times before I got it right but -"
I cut off Damon with a kiss - it doesn't matter what the cake tastes like, the fact that Damon knows me so well is heart warming.
Damon doesn't hesitate to hold me to him and kiss me back. We pull away to breath, "thank you for tonight Damon - it's been absolutely amazing."
"To the first of many great night, I hope"
It was weird to hear Damon sound insecure about whether I wanted to continue to be with him like this, which I absolutely did, "Sounds good to me - I don't plan on going anywhere Damon"
Damon smiles and softly kisses me, "Good".
I cuddled up to Damon's side on the bench to watch the city and nibble on the cake he made (which was delicious), he wrapped his arm around my hips and I rested my head on his shoulder.
I could get used to this.
