When we all first start out drawing and making art, we copy other artists art. Its how we all start out and learn.
Most people grow out of it. I certainly know I did. (I'm so sorry Dawn from Deviant Art)
When I first started out with art, I traced Five Nights at Freddy's characters.

I don't do that anymore at all.

If I were to post it somewhere I would say it wasn't mine.
That's the same with me drawing other peoples art. I do that, when I have art block, I look at anime art and recreate it, almost like reference, but I'm using the full picture.

Using references is great for your art skills. But to use references, you draw your own thing, lets say a real life girl.
I do this ALL the time. I have a board on Pinterest just for art references of girls (I sucked at guys, I'm sorry lol, this is not meant to be sexist)

As you see, I usually use these to practice semi realism. Sometimes, I may input them into my own style (anime like) I somehow got my style from drawing with YouTube tutorials (FuntoDraw mostly) and it helped me develop a style.

I really want to improve MY style, the only way to do that is to practice

NOT COPY

If you want to copy others poses trying looking up poses with guidelines

Oh, and just because you say you put your own "twist" on it, doesn't mean you had the idea.

If the original picture was colored in Oil, with an Acrylic underpaint, and you draw the EXACT same thing and use Copic Sketch; DOESNT MEAN ITS YOURS BECAUSE ITS NOT

That's all for my rant

Hope you all learned something! If you want me to add to it, just leave a comment and I'll mention it!

Peace!✌
