— jungkook's point-of-view during the events of chapter thirteen
"hello? jackson?" jungkook spoke into the receiver, frowning when he hears guttural sounds coming from the other side of the call, followed by a few coughs and agonizing groans. "jackson? are you okay?" he asks and frowns even more when the line gets cut without any response whatsoever.
where the hell is he?
he gets up from the table and excuses himself, telling youngjae and jaebum that he's going to look for jackson. jungkook doesn't miss the strange glance exchanged between the two guys but decides to just ignore it, pushing himself up from his seat and exiting the cafeteria.
"now that i think about it," jungkook starts, speaking to no one in particular as he ventures through the hallway. "i didn't get the chance to talk to taehyung after class earlier. why was he in such a rush to leave anyways?" he pondered.
after realizing that jackson was nowhere to be found on the floor he was currently at, jungkook made a turn around the corner and headed down the stairs to the floor below. at first, the ravenette was going to consider giving up since he remembered that barely anyone came down to this particular floor during lunchtime, but immediately stops in his tracks when he sees a figure in the distance, walking further and further away down the hall with a limp figure in their arms.
"what on earth?" jungkook mutters under his breath, quickening his pace and trailing after the two unknown students.
however, in mere seconds, he felt a strong force collide with his side, causing him to stagger back a couple of steps. grunting, he rubbed the area of impact on his hipbone and glared up at the person who carelessly bumped into him.
he felt his body stiffen when his eyes met the blazing ones of jackson.
"jackson-hyung?" jungkook says, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. but as the younger finally processed how jackson looked like at that moment, he felt his entire being turn cold. "i-is that blood?" he stammered, pointing down at the blonde male's stained shirt and then glanced back up to take in his messed up hair, bloody lips and panicked gaze.
"jungkook," jackson mumbled, casting his eyes away from the other's. clicking his tongue, he begins to turn the opposite direction but instantly gets stopped by jungkook.
"what happened when you were on the call with me?" jungkook questioned, fingers wrapped securely around jackson's wrist. "why did it sound like someone was in pain? what did you do? and more importantly, why do you have so much fucking blood on you?"
"holy shit," jackson cursed, shaking his arm to pry jungkook's hand off of him. "just leave me alone, jungkook. i'm in a hurry right now," he states and hurriedly rushes away before jungkook gets another chance to prevent him from doing so.
jungkook huffs with curiosity and bewilderment raking all over his veins. "he's got a heck lot to explain later," he declares softly.
he then remembered the two figures he saw earlier and hastily headed down the corridor in the direction that they took.
why do i have such a bad feeling?
he tenses up when he picks up on faint chattering behind the wall that was a mere foot away from him. quietly sneaking up, he presses his back against the cold surface and attempts his hardest to listen, despite knowing that he shouldn't be doing this.
"do you know who did it?" an oddly familiar voice spoke.
"no. when i found him, he was already passed out and there was no one else nearby," another voice replied with sympathy laced in his tone.
"shit! why didn't i go find him? it's all my fault."
"don't blame yourself, jimin. there was no way you could've known."
jungkook's eyes widened. jimin? his fists clenched and unclenched nervously as he continued to eavesdrop.
"i know, hyung, i'm just mad. what kind of asshole would beat up someone as innocent as taehyung?"
the black-haired male clasped his hand over his mouth as small bits of information began to click together in his head. it can't be jackson, right? was that why jackson had blood—
"i don't know, jimin, but the damage has already been done. once we find out who did it, they're dead."
jimin loudly sighed in frustration. "yeah, i guess what happened has happened. all we could do right now is wait for tae to wake up and let him rest for a while."
"yeah. poor taehyungie might even get trauma from this."
"let's hope for the best, hoseok-hyung. once again, thank you for taking tae—"
jungkook couldn't bear to listen anymore. he didn't want to keep hearing taehyung's name whilst knowing what happened to him. he didn't want to face the realization that due to the possibility of him not being able to see through his newfound friends, he unintentionally endangered taehyung.
"curse you, jackson wang," he hissed in anger. "i'll make you regret hurting tae."
a/n: if anyone was wondering, jungkook was the one who called jackson when he was beating taehyung up in chap 13. also, when visiting taehyung at the nurse's office in the previous chapter, jungkook knew it was jackson who did it even though jimin still didn't know because jungkook got suspicious after running into jackson and soon pieced stuff together (like the origins of the blood splats on jackson's shirt) while eavesdropping on jimin and hoseok's convo.
