"I'm telling you Emily! This boy can't tell his tailbone from his shoulders!" Henry hollered. I laughed from my seat and Jared looked slightly annoyed.
"I don't know, he seems to be doing a fine job to me." I complimented as I stood up to get a better look at Jared working. He had stuck true to the techniques I showed him and it seemed Henry's condition had actually gotten better.
"Oh now he's doing okay! Of course! Just yesterday he wasted 20 minutes trying to work on something you already fixed!" Henry complained and glared at the young wolf.
"I was trying to make sure your work was maintained Luna Emily." Jared responded looking at me with a concerned look. I smiled.
"Let me check." Jared removed his hands and I replaced them with my own hovering over Henry's spine. I touched up on a few parts and then realized Henry was doing significantly better than I had even hoped. He might have some movement back.
"You're awfully quiet back there Emily, or do I need to call you Luna now? Your scent is different, did my son finally grow some balls?" He let out a large laugh and banged the table with his fist.
"Actually Henry, you're right. And, I'm pregnant." It was a small lie but I felt like pushing Henry's buttons. It did the trick, his body jolted and something amazing happened. His legs lifted slightly off the table and his feet twitched. I couldn't keep the smile off my face. "Your legs moved!"
"Never mind my legs! You're pregnant?! What are you doing wasting your time down here! Go rest! Don't even think about using your energy on an old fart like me. Focus on that baby and- wait they did?" Henry looked at his legs, he couldn't believe it.
"Yes, they did!" I all but shouted. "Oh, and I'm not pregnant. Sorry." I grinned sheepishly for my little prank but was still beyond happy. He may be able to stand soon.
"You'll be the end of me kid." He laughed and then stared at his legs again. Jared was also grinning, he looked almost ready to cry.
"Good job Jared." I smiled at him and he bowed his head still looking like he was on cloud 9. We did a routine check up and had Henry try a few tests where he tried pushing back against our hands with his legs and feet. The amount he was able to push back was weak but it was something.
"What's the prognosis doc?" He asked with a grin now sitting back in his chair. I looked over his results and made an estimate.
"I'd say... we could have you standing in at least a month. Maybe even shifting. If we can get you to shift again it'll speed up the process even more." Henry nodded his head and got a distant look. He smiled and it was soft, charming even. He would see his mate again soon, I knew it.
----
After talking a bit more with Henry and working out some details with Jared we decided on a more intensive plan of recovery where Jared and I would both now be working on Henry starting in a week's time when I would be near 100% again.
I decided to walk around the pack house a bit but eventually got tired before I saw anyone and instead opted to visit Cain in his office. When I got to the door I noticed a scent besides Cain's lingered in the air. It was a scent not belonging to our pack but it didn't smell of rogue. I knocked on the door feeling slightly unsure and received a delayed response from Cain. "Come in."
I opened the door and couldn't stop the bit of unease that settled in my chest. Cain sat at his desk as always but beside him was a female. The chair that was usually on the other side of his desk was moved to the side of his and facing him. He looked relaxed and the woman beside him looked stunning. She had long midnight black hair and strong features.
