"Jordan! Where are you?" I texted my friend. I still got no reply. I sat down on the local bus stop bench and sighed. No other people were around at this hour. I didn't even know if the buses were running this late. Alice stood in front of me.
"Do you hate me now?" she asked me. "Or are you still focusing your feelings on finding Jordan? Do you wonder if there is a way to undue the contract? I warned you all before, there is no way." she said. "I am not powerful enough to do that." she sat beside me on the bench.
"About me becoming a powerful demon hunter... can that really happen?" I asked.
"Powerful does not even begin to describe what you'd be capable of." Alice said. "You would be the greatest demon hunter that ever lived. You might even have enough power to become a god."
"But, why? How is that possible? I can't even imagine what it would be like to have powers at all." I said. We sat in silence for a while. "Would I even be more powerful than you, Alice?" I asked. Alice looked at me in disbelief. "If I form a contract with you, Alice, would I be able to reverse Jordan's contract?" Alice looked at me and smiled.
"Of course. All it would take is a simple touch of your soul. After I unleash its full power, the possibilities for you are endless." she said.
"Alright." I said relieved. "Then I'll do it for Jordan. I'll make a contract..." Then Alice disappeared. "Huh?" I exclaimed started. I looked ahead of me to see Mr. Matthews with his palm pointed towards where Alice had been.
"How could you?" I called to him as he approached me. "You're so cruel! You didn't have to send Alice to another time!"
"You don't understand." he said. I noticed that there were tears in his eyes. "Stop being so stupid! You're always putting yourself in danger! Don't you know that there are people in this world that care about you, and would be mortified if something happened to you? How do you think those people would feel if you died?" he scolded me as he put his hands on my shoulders. All I could do is watch in silence as he shook me and cried.
"Like you?" I asked. He stopped and stared at me. "I have asked you this before, but I wasn't sure back then: have we seen each other before?" His eyes filled with anguish. "Not when I was in high school, I mean. But, somewhere else possibly?"
"I don't know," he said. "how I'm ever going to be able to explain it to you." He broke down onto the ground and held his chest with his hands. Then, he was silent as the tears continued to flow from his eyes. I had never seen him like this before. After a while, I realized that I had no time to waste.
"I'm sorry. But, I need to go find Jordan!" I said.
"What?" he asked. I turned and ran down the street. I was going to go towards the outside of the city. I figured if Jordan was serious about running away, then she'd probably leave the city. I had to find the bus stop right outside the city. "Wait, Nora! It's too late for Jordan!" Mr. Matthews called to me, but I ignored him.
"You never give up, do you?" Mr. Matthews heard Alice's voice from behind him. He knew that he only had a matter of time before Alice traveled back to their own time herself. She had that kind of power. "It's pointless to send me to another time, when I can just travel back at will. It's trivial to try and get rid of me. You shouldn't waste my time or your own like that." she sat on the bench. Mr. Matthews was still kneeling on the ground drying the tears from his eyes. "I never made the connection before, but I think I've figured you out now. Your power is time travel. It's very interesting that even I don't remember making a contract with you. Could it be that you are not from this timeline after all?" Alice asked him. She stroked her chin mockingly at him. Mr. Matthews scoffed.
"I know what you're really planing. I know who you are and what you're capable of." he said.
"Well, you must know something about the truth sense you seem to be doing everything in your power to stop me. You're doing all of this for Nora Evans, aren't you?" Alice asked.
"Absolutely." he responded. He picked himself up from the ground and faced Alice. "I will not allow your plans to see the light of day, Alice. Or should I call you by your real name?" He looked Alice dead in the eyes as she smiled wickedly back at him. "Lucifer?"
"I go by Lucy if you prefer to call me that. Since I am female." she explained. Mr. Matthews stood there faced with the devil herself.
