~ [Mason] ~

I've been sitting in my car for hours in her parking lot. I couldn't bring myself to come back to her, but I can't get myself to leave either. The look in her eyes took everything from me and I can't forget the way she hesitated to answer me. That's when I realized how many times she's done that before. That's also when I realized that all those times, she was thinking about Liam when she was with me.

My breathing sped up rapidly as I fell into the hole of self pity. I pulled out my phone to search for something, for anything, to distract me from all the thoughts racing through my mind, clawing at my heart.

The first thing I saw was a party invite and I immediately clicked to join. Tapping on the address, I let my GPS map the route to my distraction for the night.

I used to take on a lot of distractions, particularly girls. One every week, and most of them wanted more, but I couldn't give them that back then. I worked through my feelings for Evelyn by sleeping with a different girl every week, hoping that I'd find someone who could change my mind. None did, of course, and after she left, I started to see her face on every girl. It freaked me out so much, I had to stop.

Seeing her again in college was like a gift from above, but of course, God has a sense of humor to have had her fall for Liam this entire time. What made it worse was that he knew my feelings. I couldn't help but feel betrayed. Why couldn't he just come clean with his own feelings?

She was never mine to have, and there's no changing that.

By the time I got to the address, the sky was darkening, but I saw no stars. The house I was approaching had thumping music and drunken toddlers tripping down the porch stairs. I pushed past the various sweat covered bodies and toward the heavy drinks. A stranger was pouring shots of different types of drinks, from cheap vodka to classic rum.

On an empty stomach, I ran ten shots of three different alcohols down my throat. I felt a hand caressing my shoulder and another offering me a soda cup to chase it down. A part of me hoped that it was Evelyn, but that was stupid. She wouldn't be here.

It was Grace Bigg. God, this girl is everywhere.

"Mason! I was wondering who could look so familiar from behind. I wouldn't forget that muscular back..." She ran her fingers up and down my back, but all it did was remind me how much I had pleasured Ev last time. The marks were still there and I took pride of them even now.

"Hey, Grace," I greeted her with a tight-lipped smile. Grace was one of the girls I slept with after Ev left and was the last. The blue eyed blonde number looked nothing like the dark hair, green eyed Evelyn, and yet, as I made my way inside of her all I could see was Evelyn.

"Why don't we hang out somewhere a little more... private?" She rubbed my shoulders tenderly with her taloned hands and I fought the urge to shudder. Nodding slightly, I stood up and followed her toward the stairs. Being drunk, I made very sudden decisions, so as I was following her to God knows what she was planning, I felt a need to pee.

She looked back at me to make sure I was still following, and I nodded at her with a small smile. As soon as she turned back around, I headed off to look for a bathroom.

"Hey," I tapped on the shoulder of a stranger, who turned out to be Harper. "Oh, hi."

"Hi," she responded, seemingly not surprised nor amused of the coincidence. "I'm waiting for the bathroom, so you'll have to wait."
