(Monae Pov:)
I called out of work as sick today. I eased out of bed and out of Kortez grip. Walked over to my closet putting on my black I ❤️NY shirt and my black yoga pants with the red waistband. I slid on my Jordan slides and grabbed my keys off the coffee table leaving out the top. I quietly walked into Mason's bedroom picking him up without waking him. I slowly opened the door without waking Kortez and walked out.
I walked down the stairs to my car placing Mason in his car seat at the back of my car. I got in the car and drove off an immediately went looking for August. I was going to call him but my phone seemed to be completely dead. I pulled over to look in the mirror at my swollen lip. My lip was better going down a little and my eye was purple. I started the car back up and started driving I couldn't remember August address but I remember where our dear friend Tahj stayed. I pulled into Tahj's driveway and seen August outside sitting on the porch with a chick in his lap. I looked in the back seat at Mason who was still sleep.
Then I gotten out the car and grabbed Mason out with waking him up as well. I then started walking to the porch. August seen me and told the girl to get up. He shook his head and healed his hand out for mine. I gave him my right hand and held onto Mason with my left hand. He walked me into the kitchen and I sat at the table as Mason was sleeping with his head pressed against my breast.
He walked to the freezer grabbing out an ice pack and handed it to me. "Where else does it hurt"? He asked.
I lifted up my shirt and showed him the bruises on my stomach. August balled up his fist "ya' not going back there" he demanded.
"I don't have anywhere else to go" I said beyond a whisper.
"Ya', ya' son, and ya' sister can move in with me" he said rubbing my back.
"August that's asking a lot.. I can't" he cut me off "Monae look I care about ya' and ya' family. I can't allow you all to keep living there... pleaseeee come move in with me" August pleaded.
"Okay" I said agreeing to move in with him.
August dropped to his knees hugging Mason and I. Mason woke up and wrapped his arms around August. August picked him up "I love ya' little man.. imma take care of ya', ya' mother, and ya' auntie". August placed his head between Mason neck "I love ya' little man" August had a tear rolling down his cheek.
"I lwove you too"! Mason said looking into August eyes and wiping his tears away.
August stood there holding and bouncing Mason. Brought tears to my eyes I think I finally found someone who loved my son as much as I do. And could possibly love me the same way.
Tahj walked into the kitchen. And looked at my lip and eye. He got mad and punched a hole in the wall.
"Monae what the fuck happened to your eye"?! He yelled.
"It was that nigga Kortez" August spoke up.
"Kortez want to put his hands on my sister?.. how about me lay hands on his bitch ass" Tahj said reaching in his pants gripping his gun.
"Calm down Tahj.. nigga I got this" he convinced Tahj.
He looked at August with a concerned look then he glanced at me. "August we boys and allat but that girl right there is my sister. You need to protect her like you protect Jazmyn"! Tahj said.
"Nigga ya' know I am I love these people.. that's why I am helping them out" August grabbed my hand.
"Call me when you're settled in sis" Tahj gave me a hug.
"I will" I said as I hugged him back.
Going back to the apartment to pack Was stuff was not going to be easy so I asked August to come with me. On our way we went to go pick up Miracle from her friend house. So she could come pack her things as well.
