"Yes!"
"No!"
Devan and Dilan said at the same time.
"Can I talk to you for a second Dilan?"
Before he could answer, Devan dragged him off. They came back with Dilan seething and Devan grinning.
"Welcome aboard, Ira."
I sighed in relief.
"So I hid in that horrid wagon for nothing?"
*****
We set of. Prince Asher rode beside me and Reigna, who I was riding again, while Devan taunted Ira behind me. Our travelling party was small with Devan, Ira, me, Dilan, Asher and a few soldiers. Dilan road in front, not saying a word as he lead."She has a horsey face, doesn't she." I heard Devan say.
"That's because she's a horse."
"Oh. I was talking to the horse."
The next thing I heard was a twack.
"Oww."
"Jerk."
"Come on. I was only kidding."
I chuckled as Ira rode up beside me.
That was all the excitement for that day. I made small talk with Asher for a while then we went silent. Devan kept on annoying Ira and while Dilan ignored me completely, I found my thoughts wandering towards my father.
I hadn't heard from him since the incident with the queen and it was nerve wracking. Would he strike again? I didn't know, and I was torture knowing that we I was putting them all in danger.
I looked up at Dilan and sighed.
*****
We camped for the night and gathered round a fire. Sounds of banter and Ira and Devan's bickering filled the silent night. They were arguing about they would make for dinner.
Dilan was staring silently at the fire, ignoring the chatter arounf him. I got up from where I was and sat down beside him.
"What's on your mind?"
He looked at me then back at the fire.
"The kingdom."
"Well if you're worried about my father attacking the castle, you don't have to worry because I'm not there and he probably won't bother." I bit my lip. "I mean if he's after the people I care about then he wouldn't have any reason to go to the castle, apart from your mother that is, I care about her but he already tried that once even if it probably wasn't directed at her, anyway, I dont think he would do it again would he? Besides your mother wouldn't let us go if she didn't think she was safe, would she? I'm not helping, am I? You know wha-"
My ranting was interrupted my deep chucking. Looked at Dilan and he was laughing. The sound made me feel warm inside and I bit back the mile that was beginning to form.
"What's so funny?"
"You." He kept on laughing.
"Glad to know that you find me comedic." I huffed, trying hard not to smile.
"Yeah. I do." His laughter came to an end and he sighed. The smile he had on was still on his face and I felt warm knowing that I put it there.
"Well, it's good to know that you're feeling better. At my expense." I got up to leave but he held my hand. I tried hard to ignore the tingling sensation going up my arm.
"Stay a while." He looked up at me with those grey eyes and my breath hitched. I nodded and sat down.
We stared at the fire, with no words spoken. He didn't let go of my hand when I sat down and maybe to calm the rate at which my heart was beating, I didn't either.
Slowly, the activities in the camp began to dim until the fire was put out. I went into my tent, and Ira was already asleep. I stretched my wings and yawned then lay down. As I thought of what all ahead, sleep came to me fast and the last thing I saw before I feel asleep was Dilan.
