Chapter 4
Kaleigh’s Point Of View
As Brantley pulled back I glanced at the ground already feeling my face flushing with heat. I couldn’t get too attached to him, I know I couldn’t because once he’ll get his bike fixed and taken care of he’ll be gone. Most likely he’ll be off on tour, meeting fans that were prettier than I am, and most likely better for him.
But was it dumb for me to think maybe there could possibly be a tiny chance that maybe there could be a relationship? I could already tell I wanted one with him badly, which frankly I don’t know if it’s a bad thing considering we just met. But after what happened inside, him sticking up for me like that, how could I not want to be with him?
“We better go find James and let him know I’m stealing his truck. “ I said standing up smiling as I turned towards Brantley.
“Wait, you’re telling me that you can actually drive that thing?” He asked glancing over his shoulder at my brother’s truck as he stood up.
“Why did you think I couldn’t?” I asked with a smirk.
“Well I wasn’t sure considering the size of it but if you say so.” He replied smirking back.
“Oh I can, it’s not a stick so I should be okay. I have issues driving those.” I told him laughing at the memory of when my father tried to teach me right after I got my license when I was sixteen. That didn’t happen again.
“Well maybe we can work on that issue sometime,” He told me with a smile and we continued walking in silence.
Pretty soon we arrived at the garage or barn thing that Lagan and the guy worked on their trucks and stuff in. I glanced in the doorway and saw my brother bent over a truck, gazing under the hood trying to figure something out.
“Knock, knock.” I said leaning against the side of the building causing James to jump because I startled him.
“Damn Kay, you scared me.” He said shaking his head and turning back to what he was doing when I walked in.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to.” I began, pushing myself off the building and swinging his keys around on my finger. “I just wanted to let you know that I’m barrowing your truck to help a guy out who’s motorcycle broke down just down the road.”
“What did he do, walk up and ask for help?” He grumbled as he grabbed a wrench and starting removing something.
“Actually yeah, He’s kind of good looking too you know. Maybe I found myself a man James.” I said aggravating, glancing back at Brantley giving him the sign to stay quiet as he almost started laughing.
“You wish Kay, Now go back to the truck and do whatever you were doing. I’ll be there in a bit.” He shook his head trying not to laugh.
“No I’m being serious! He said something about his name being Brantley Gilbert I think, but who knows. I’ll just go back to the truck though and tell him we can’t help.” I tried my hardest to sound serious but my façade was starting to crack, and with a glance at Brantley I knew his was too. James jumped up so fast with that sentence that he hit his head on the hood of the truck. That’s when we both lost it.
