I watched the crew in the corner with Will. They were playing a game with dice. They threw the dice into a cup and slammed it down on the table.
"I wager ten years." The hammerhead shark betted.
"I'll match the wager." Another said.
"Agreed." They all lifted the cups and started mumbling.
"Wondering how it's played?" Bootstrap's voice echoed in my ear.
"I understand. It's a game of deception. The game includes all the dice, not just your own. What are they waging?" I asked looking back at him.
"The only thing we have: years of service."
"So any Crew member can be challenged?" I say, a planning forming in my mind.
"Aye, anyone."
"I challenge Davy Jones," I say strongly. Will looks me in my eyes for a sign of worry, but all I feel is determination. The crew stops and organ music ceased. I hear thudding and then the crew starts to laugh. Round the corner, Davy Jones emerges.
"I accept mate!" The crew sits me down with a table and five dice and a cup. I stand up when Jones emerges.
"The stakes?"
"My soul. An eternity of service."
"No!" Both Will and Bootstrap yell. Jones ignored them.
"Against?"
"I want this," I say pulling the drawing of the key out of my pocket and slamming it down on the table. Jones looks at me skeptically, but picks up the drawing with his crab claw and opens it up. A look of shock unravels on his face as he slams it back down on the table.
"How do you know of the key?" He grits.
"That's not part of the game, is it? You can still walk away." I say sitting down at the table. Jones hesitates before sitting down opposite of me. Jones grabs something from behind his tentacles. It was indeed the key. He dangled it in front of me to show me that he has it. His tentacle, along with the key, disappeared into his mane of tentacles. I grabbed the dice and threw them into the cup. I shake the cup and slam it down on the table. I heard another cup slam on the table as well. I look up to see Bootstrap sitting down at the table.
"What's this?" Jones spits out.
"I'm in, matching her wager."
"No. Don't do this." I glare. It wasn't his burden to bear.
"Die's cast. I bet three two's. It's your bid, Captain." Bootstrap said to Jones.
"Four four's." Jones' crew starts to laugh.
"Four five's," I say bravely, still staring at Jones.
"Six three's." Bootstrap calls. I lift up my cup slowly and see 3 5's.
"Seven five's." I snap my head up and see Jones smirking evilly. I mustered up my courage and raised the bid.
"Eight five's," I say bravely.
"Hehehe, welcome to the Crew, miss." Jones laughs as does his crew.
"Twelve five's. Twelve five's. Call me a liar, I upped the bid." No. I thought.
"And be called a liar myself for my trouble." Davy Jones reveals his dice and I mutter a gasp.
"Bootstrap Bill, you're a liar and you will spend an eternity on this ship." I caught Will with his eyes widened.
"Mrs. Turner, feel free to go ashore. The minute the next time we make port." Jones and his crew laughs and leaves me alone with Will and Bootstrap.
