Hoseok let the small marble float in the air. It was spinning and far from stable. Every time he would throw it up in the air and try to catch it with only his magic, not once did he succeed. The stone fell back on the bed with a muffled sound. Hoseok sighed and picked it up, he tried again. He let the stone float above his hand, moving his fingers to adjust its balance. It was close to balancing a bat on his hand, moving and turning to try and keep it stable, almost always failing.
Yoongi had told him he should learn how to let objects fly first before he would be able to fly. It made sense, of course, but that didn't meant that it was easy. Hopefully through much training he would be able to do it, hopefully also better than his attempt at creating fire on the arrows.
Even though it was just letting an object float, it was a lot trickier than it looked. Almost like walking a straight line when drunk. You were trying your best at such a simple thing, but the result was always bad. Failing at simple things had become quite normal to Hoseok. He was hardly the level of his classmates. Even Jin, who had never used his powers before, had done better than him. If it hadn't been for Yoongi he wouldn't be able to do anything.
Hoseok let his thoughts wander and his focus slip, just like the stone between his fingers. The marble fell onto his palm, rolling onto the floor. The man groaned and stood up from his bed. The stupid thing could've gone anywhere.
Hoseok sat down on the floor and looked around. It must've rolled somewhere under the beds. He laid his head on the floor looking under all the furniture. Hoseok spotted the stone under Yoongi's bed. He crawled under it reaching out his hand. His fingers grazed the floor collecting dust, still he couldn't feel the marble. He kept moving around until his fingers hit something. Only instead of the stone cold marble he had touched something made of leather. Curiously he pulled it out from under the bed.
In his hand was a black, leather book. It weirdly felt much heavier than it looked. Something was wrong. Even though it just seemed like a normal book it seemed almost alive, whispering things to him and yelling at the same time. It made him feel all kinds of uncomfortable yet he was too curious to put it away.
Hoseok carefully opened the book and looked at the first page. It was filled with scribbles and horrifying pictures. It was in some language he couldn't understand so his only point of comprehension were the drawings, something he did not like. On the pictures there were people rising from their graves, wounds inflicted and blood everywhere. It was all kinds of terrible and sick.
Hoseok was sure that at least some of the red stains on the pictures were of real blood. It made him feel sick. Shivers ran down his back, freezing his breathing and heartbeat. Never before had he been so shocked of magic.
Hoseok wasn't a genius when it came to spell knowledge but even he knew these incantations meant no good. He hadn't seen one picture so far that wasn't horrifying and on which no one was hurt. What was Yoongi doing?
"Hoseok?" A familiar voice behind him asked. The younger quickly stood up hiding the book behind his back. He tried his best to look as natural as possible.
"Yeah?" He asked Yoongi. The elder raised an eyebrow, he knew something was off.
"What are you hiding?" He asked.
The younger gulped trying his best to control his thoughts. Hoseok had grown almost accustomed to Yoongi's abilities. He knew how to lock certain things away in his mind now. Yoongi could only tell he was lying from the way his posture changed.
"Nothing." Hoseok quickly answered with a slightly quivering voice. The images from the book were still fresh in his mind, and that wasn't helping right now.
"You're holding something behind your back." Yoongi said walking closer.
Hoseok concentrated and let go of the book. It got firmly pressed against his back with his own magic. He held his hands up showing Yoongi his empty palms. Yoongi looked at his hands with a look of confusion. When he wasn't looking Hoseok let the book slide down from his back until it was placed back under the bed again.
"Well, why were you under my bed then?" Yoongi said. He knew what Hoseok was doing. He wasn't blind. He knew Hoseok had seen the book Mr. Dae gave to him, he just didn't know how much of it he had seen. Still if Hoseok didn't ask then he wouldn't talk.
"I was practicing floating with a marble but I dropped it and it rolled under the bed." Hoseok explained truthfully. Yoongi was interested, his friend hadn't lied. Still he was definitely hiding something.
The elder walked around keeping his eyes fixed on the carpet. A small stone caught his attention. He picked it up and turned it in his hand. If Hoseok was even able to drop something this small he was far from ready for flying. Still Yoongi had felt the magic in the room just a second ago, he knew Hoseok had used a float spell when he showed him his empty palms, tricking him into thinking that he was innocent. So how was he able to do it?
Yoongi looked at the stone in thought before an idea made its way into his mind. In a mere second he had flung the stone at his roommate with enormous speed. The younger was taken aback but still quick to react. He didn't dodge or attack, he just raised his hand concentrating immediately due to the amount of adrenaline running through his body. The stone kept floating in mid-air as if stuck in a wall.
Yoongi couldn't help but smirk at Hoseok's slightly surprised face. Still it wasn't as surprised as it should be, this just concluded his assumptions that his friend had tricked him.
"Well then. I thought you said you dropped it but it seems you are capable enough of balancing this." Yoongi said walking towards the peddle and holding his hand under it. Only a moment later it dropped on his palm.
Hoseok shrugged trying his best to be convincing. "Maybe I just need the right motivation?" He said. Yoongi bit the inside of his mouth in thought, he suddenly had an idea for the next class.
"Well, you are one step closer to flying, that's for sure." He said putting the idea in the back of his mind. Hoseok smiled slightly.
"How about your part of the deal?" He asked. Yoongi froze, the only movement he still made was twisting the stone nervously between his fingers almost dropping it again.
"What about it?" He asked nonchalant.
"Well, when are we visiting your father?" Hoseok asked. Yoongi thought for a second.
In some ways he wanted to see his father and make things right but he was also afraid. He knew that if Hoseok wouldn't force him he would've never gone back to that cursed house.
"In a few weeks we have a week vacation, maybe we can go then?" Yoongi mumbled. The younger nodded in agreement.
"That sounds good." He said giving Yoongi a soft smile. The elder smiled back.
It was weird how they were lying to each other. Yoongi knew that Hoseok had seen his book of dark magic and Hoseok knew that Yoongi was onto him, still lying was easier than facing the truth and putting their friendship on the line. Especially since it started to mean more to them as time went by.
Oooooh, trouble's coming up. Be prepared because omg.
Also next week I will be in Greece with my school and I won't have WiFi. So I'll either update again on Sunday or I'll update twice the week after that. I'll make it up to you anyway I just don't know when yet because of my hectic schedule.
