"Okay... so what mi fi wear? I was thinking dis.." Emerald said as they'd now opened her wide closet. She gestured to an all red swimsuit as she held it up against her frame.Mel furrowed her brows and shook her head. "No no don' be stupid, it too cold for de swimsuits. You ah freezee tah death." She said and Emerald nodded in agreement; she'd totally forgotten about how late it was.
Melissa began to roam through her closet, pushing the hangers of the many outfits, until she finally stopped at one. Her features lit up and she nodded to herself as she revealed the clothing in front of Emerald. An all white baby doll dress her grandmother Dolly had given to her. She thought about it for a second, then realized this night was somewhat special to her, and so was this dress.
"Yes." She simply stated as she nodded her head and a smile curved it's way onto her heart shaped lips.
"Glad yuh agree, but what shoes you guh pair wid." She asked and Emerald smirked; she'd always planned a whole outfit with the dress, just never knew where or when to wear it.
Emerald kneeled down and opened the large drawer which contained her many shoes. Slides, heels, slippers, boots a whole wide variety. Of course her family wasn't as fortunate as many, but Emerald's mother always made sure she got the best of the best; even if that meant sacrificing her hard earned money.
She pulled out small white lace up heels and Melissa grinned as she clapped her hands. "Aye yuh you got dis Emmy!" Her best friend was so excited for her.
Emerald quickly got herself freshened up, taking a nice warm shower as she closed her eyes underneath the water and sighed as the water soothed and calmed her down. She couldn't help but let her mind slip to Lance, and when it did she thought about the two of them; in this shower together. Emerald's thoughts began to drift the possibility of how good Lance could make her feel. She'd seen how he'd look at her at times and she could tell just how much he wanted her; she wanted him too.
A knock on the door and a few yells from Mel interrupted her from proceeding with her dirty thoughts. Emerald quickly hopped out and dried her hair, wrapping a towel around her body. When Emerald opened the door and walked into her bedroom her eyes widened when she saw her mother sitting on the bed next to Mel.
"Ma.." She said out of both confusion and irritation. She was sure she was sleeping before, she figured she must've woken up.
Emerald's mother looked over at her and smiled as Emerald walked over and hugged her. Her mother placed a kiss on her cheek and Emerald did the same back as she tugged her wet strands of hair back.
"I hear you sick Emmy.." Her mother said and she awkwardly nodded as she sat beside the two of them. Emerald looked at Melissa and Mel shrugged, looking away to avoid eye contact. Melissa hadn't said anything about the date night, nor her leaving her mother had just surprisingly decided to pop in.
"Yeah issa small cough.." Emerald said before faking several coughs and clearing her throat. Melissa rolled her eyes at the lack of acting skills Emerald possessed.
Her mother nudged her shoulder. "Gyal, a cough ain gun kill ya! You had mih worry, thinking yuh reaaaaaal sick!" Her mother stood up and shook her head and Emerald gave a giggle before she lead herself out, yawning as she went back into her room.
Melissa and Emerald looked at each other and Emerald shook her head. "Whe mih tell you I was real scared when ah seen her in here.." Emerald held a hand at her chest and Melissa rolled her head back as she began to laugh.
"No, serious! Imagine if her come in here, while we do the makeup and mih all dressed up lookin real nice.."
The thought alone made Emerald's heart skip a beat. She knew her mother would be all up on her case with accusations and questions.
"Right.. An you gon affi wait till she fall back to sleep.."
Emerald sighed and nodded as she began putting on her underwear and bra. She put on her white short dress and looked at herself in the small mirror as she smiled. Moments later Mel joined beside her, smiling too as she looked at her bestfriend.
"If yuh stare too long the mirror guh crack." Melissa said as she placed her chin on her shoulder and Emerald rolled her eyes, brushing her off as they both laughed.
"What should I do wid deh hair?" She began running her hands through her straight hair and Melissa smiled.
"I guh curl it." She said as she grabbed the hair curler and began twirling it around.
It was small moments like this where Emerald was just glad to have a bestfriend like her.
***
The time was 10:30. Emerald was thirty minutes late and she only hoped Lance was still there, her heart would break a little if she went down and he was gone. Emerald looked in the mirror one last time, her makeup was set, her outfit was neat and tidy and her pearls sat loosely at her neck.
"Have fun. bitch! An dun do noting I wouldn't do!" Melissa exclaimed as she clutched on to her bestfriend who was now ready to leave. Emerald giggled as she hugged her bestfriend back, nodding in agreement.
Melissa and Emerald tip toed out of the room and across the hall, then down the stairs. When they finally got to the door Emerald put on her shoes then looked up at her best friend.
"If ma wake up?" It was unlikely she would but still, Emerald was nervous she never took risks like these before.
"I'll tell ha you in de toilet, you takin a walk to clear de mind, I'll tell her whatever! Don't worry you jus have fun.." Mel assured her as she smiled and put her hands in her pockets.
Emerald nodded as she smiled and with that, she'd left and was on the way to her man.. friend, or whatever he was to her; she wasn't sure yet.
