Before we begin, I feel like you guys deserve this amazing photo of Ringo and Marc Bolan:
You're welcome.
Now to begin the struggles:
1. It's a looked down genre.
Unfortunately, glam rock was probably second only to progressive rock in terms of classic rock sub genres that never got enough respect, at least in the eyes of the critics.
Favorite words to describe the genre:
1. Superficial
2. Decadent
3. Over the top
4. Glitzy2. Men and makeup
Unfortunately, guys don't wear makeup in quite the same way they used to. In other words, the only guys that wear it are emos and drag queens for the most part, not really for any reason of particular artistic expression (expect for some drag queens and youtubers.)3. Crushes
Admit it, you find guys like this:Or this:
Hot as fuck. Unfortunately, most girls our age don't, for some God forsaken reason.
You've developed a crush on at least one glam rocker in your time, and no one you know gets it. Literally, no one!
Or, there's the even worse alternative...4. Gay
Other girls think they are gay. You are so tired of explained the awesomeness of these people and having it disparaged at this point.
That reminds me of a funny story.
I showed a photo of Brian Eno, you know this guy:To my sister's douche of a fiancé. (Oh, let me get into him later...) Let's just say he is extremely homophobic. I showed him a the picture and he literally said, "That's queer!" I wanted to punch him right in the face for multiple reasons at that point.
5. Diversity
Glam is a really diverse genre, so it can be really hard to explain what exactly you mean when you say you like glam rock. I, for one, mean 1970's art rock a la Bowie, Bolan, Roxy Music, Queen, etc....
But you could mean 80's hair metal, so it can be really confusing.Things....
1. Copying makeup styles of your favorite rockers.
2. Being mad Rogerina is prettier then you.
3. Admit it. You're artsy. There's no way around it. You are that one really artsy, creative person at your school.
4. Writing a book that is a fanfic about various glam rockers getting together at a party.Wait.
Never mind.
That was just me....5. Wishing guys could pull off androgyny like they did in the seventies.
This is all I could think of. If you can think of more, please leave a comment!
