Camping Trip Pt. 1: Rough Start

Start from the beginning

Lauren took her sandals off and walked over to the car and grabbed her clothes, pillow, and sleeping bag. She carried them over to the tent and saw her girlfriend already inside. "I brought two sleeping bags to make the bottom more comfortable to sleep on." Lauren said, knowing how much she hated sleeping on hard surfaces. She threw her pillow next to Camila's and put her duffle bag of clothes in the corner of the tent. "C'mon. Lets go take a walk." She said reaching out for Camila's hand.

Camila smiled and helped Lauren lay the second layer down. "Well... maybe if dad gets it set up tonight, we'll have the air mattress. We usually don't do that on the first night though." She took her girlfriend's hand and walked over to her mother. "We're going to go out for a walk, mom. I'm gonna show Lauren the lake," she smiled, tugging on her girlfriends hand. "We'll be back in a bit!" She called out. "I think you'll like it."

Lauren nodded her head. She would appreciate the air mattress, but she would live if it didn't happen. Knowing that she would be sleeping in Camila's arms for the next week was all she really needed. She slipped on her shoes as Camila dragged her off toward a path. Lauren smiled as she held her girlfriend's hand and they walked together along the path. She loved having new adventures with Camila. They walked down the marked path until they saw water in the distance. "I love the water," Lauren said as they walked down the steps and on to the beach.

Camila laughed and shook her head. She walked along the side of the lake. "I'm glad that you're here with me," she smiled, helping her girlfriend step up on a rocky ledge. "I wanted to take you to my favorite spot."

Lauren walked alongside her girlfriend as their fingers were laced together. She allowed Camila help her up, even though she didn't need it. She smiled at the younger girl and nodded, "I'm glad I am here, too." She said as they walked a little further, "Where is this spot?" Lauren asked.

Camila walked through a few trees and into a clearing. It had a calm river that branched into the lake by where they were camped. "It's right here. I come here sometimes... you find solace on the ice and I find it here... where it's peaceful." She stepped up on a rock and smiled. "I can't help it... You know how much I look forward to this every year," she blushed. She seemed to write more when they were camping. There was more to look at - and everything was beautiful; it put her mind at peace. "I know you're not huge on camping..."

Lauren followed her girlfriend as they climbed over more rocks. She looked out at the water and nodded her head. "I can understand that." She said honestly. "Just freeze this over and I would be in my happy place." She said as she wrapped an arm around Camila. "Thank you for sharing this with me." Lauren said as she looked out over the water with her girlfriend. "I'm not huge on camping...at all. But I will do it for you, especially if it means we share a tent and I get to spend more time with you." Lauren said kissing Camila's cheek.

The younger girl rolled her eyes. "I swear, you and your ice..." She heard something in the trees on the other side of the river and jumped, causing her to lose her footing and fall backwards into river.

Lauren smiled at her girlfriend as she held her. "I'm sorry. I can't help it." She said. She heard the noise and felt her girlfriend move.

As Camila fell, she let out a squeal. That had never happened before. Thankfully, it was deep. If she'd been further into the river it would have been worse. She would've cracked her head but since they were so close to the lake it was deeper than expected. She emerged from the water and whimpered, keeping her head above water. "Damn it... You were distracting me," she blamed Lauren with a pout.

The hockey player didn't keep her arm around the girl and soon felt the space beside her completely empty. She looked in the water and saw her girlfriend coming up. "Oh my god." Lauren said as she started laughing un-controllably. She couldn't believe Camila was that startled by a noise in the woods. "You're the expert camper, right..." She said sarcastically as she shook her head. She reached her hand out to help Camila out of the water, "Here Let me help you." She said softly.
