Slowly I placed my hands on the ground palms down and immediately regretted it. I had forgotten about the glass. My palm stung as I picked out the tiny pieces barely looking at my hands, I scrambled for my backpack keeping my eyes on the creature. I wiped my hands together in an attempt to wipe the blood away. I was only successful in smearing it. The bird was standing up now looking around and cawing. If I wasn't so frightened I would marvel at its wings and beautiful feathers, but this thing looked like it could swallow me whole.

I slid my way slowly toward the double doors of the gym but my foot kicked something that clanged. The bird swiveled around and stared at me with its huge eyes. Then it roared and flapped its wings, blowing my hair back. With another shriek it headed for me. I dropped my backpack in shock. Then I looked around for something to fight with. A pipe. I had kicked a pipe. Behind me I could hear water spewing onto the floor.

I picked it up just in time to take a giant swing. The bird squawks defiantly and to my greatest pleasure was knocked back a couple feet. He landed on the floor and was shaking his head again. Suddenly someone bursts through the doors. It's a boy. He has dark hair and green eyes. He takes in my appearance from my bloody hand to my dark clothing.

"What in god's name." the boy says just about as confused as i feel. I don't know whether or not to run or to stay put. But he can see it too which means he could have answers. "Duck!" he shouts suddenly. Stupidly i do the exact opposite clutching the pipe in my bloody hand i turn around swinging and manage to knock the bird creature back another couple feet.

"It looks more like an eagle if you ask me." i replied glancing at the boy whose golden sword gleams in the sunlight. Where did he get that? To my surprise the boy laughs.

"You know you're right." i manage a small smile. His green eyes gleam mischievously. "Get behind me." He says motioning with one hand to step back.

"Fat chance. That thing ruined my chances of a normal life. First day at a new high school and this happens!" The last part came out in yell as the creature reared its head and yet again dove toward me, completely ignoring the dark haired green eyed boy. I swing again giving a loud shout as if I'm in a war and this is my battle cry.

"Well you certainly don't hit like a girl." The boy says in astonishment. He runs a hand through his dark hair and looks at the bird as it begins to get up again. "Look I know you're angry but you should really get behind me. Believe me. I can do more damage." He says waving his wicked looking sword.

"Yeah. Maybe." I say stepping back and dropping the pipe.

"Try not to bleed out." He barks turning back toward the creature and raising his sword. He lunges for it as it begins to fly towards us. His sword cuts into the creatures wing and it sprouts blood. Golden blood. I'm astonished. What kind of giant bird bleeds golden blood? If you're going to be a bird that grows into abnormal size you should at least bleed normally! The boy slashes again cutting across the eagles face. It squaks in protest and knocks him away with his giant wing. More bad luck. The boy is flung against the wall next to me and he slumps motionless to the ground. I gasp and rush toward him. I gingerly touch his head and slap his cheeks trying to wake him up. No such luck.

"Hey. No wake up. You're suppose to be the hero!" I told him shaking his shoulders. His head just drooped forward.
Behind me the eagle screamed again making the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. I turned and watched it. It was preparing to strike again. I looked around for a weapon. His golden sword lay gleaming in the sunlight. Oh no. I thought to myself as I ran toward it. I picked it up with both hands. It was heavier than I imagined. How could he hold it? The eagle turned and let out another shriek it dove at me. With a shriek of my own I swung the sword and managed to hit the beast in the neck. More golden blood. "Yuck!" I moaned flicking some of it off my hand. Even though it didn't look like blood it still felt like it.
