February 7: (Sunday Afternoon)
"I said," Andrew started. "What are you doing here?"
I was a little surprised to hear the coldness and anger in Andrew's voice. Behind me, I can tell that my mom was too.
He rarely raise his voice and hearing him do it now shocks me a bit.
"Hey, don't act like this is your house, Andrew." Jake spat, standing up from the couch. "Don't act like a boyfriend. You're just her best friend."
"Just answer my question." Andrew snapped back.
Hearing Jake underestimate who Andrew is to me infuriated me a bit.
"Look, Jake, if you're looking for a fight, just get out. Andrew may just be my best friend but at least I'm sure he would never hurt me the way you did." I told Jake.
And I can tell that Andrew seemed happy and satisfied of what I said.
"What are you doing here anyway?" I asked him.
Jake glared at him first before turning his head on me and finally sitting back. "I'm here to talk to you, Emma."
Andrew answered for me. "And what are you going to say to her that I haven't already told her? What more lies do you plan to say?"
"Oh, I don't know?" Jake shrugged with a sarcastic face. "How about my side of the story?"
Andrew snorted. "Like that'll make a difference, bastard."
I put my hand on his shoulder, trying to tell him to calm down. I turned to look back at my mom again. I don't know why she's keeping quiet right now. She's supposed to step in between these two. Isn't she even going to at least say something to calm things down?
Well, from the look on her face––which is just pure intrigue––I won't even be surprised if she like, brought a popcorn from the kitchen to watch us or something. Right now, she's watching us the way she always watches a dramatic scene on tv.
She really is weird sometimes. Thank god I didn't get that from her... Hopefully.
Anyways, I'm getting way side-tracked here.
"It's okay, Andrew." I told him, making him relax his tense body standing protectively in front of me. "I think I can handle it."
Then I turned to look at Jake. "What do you want, Jake?"
Jake's eyes softened when he saw me step out behind Andrew. "Em, can I talk to you in private please?"
When I didn't answer immediately, his face fell and quickly added, "Please Emma, I need to talk to you. You don't know how much I wanted to explain everything. I don't expect you to forgive me but please, please let me explain my side of the story. Please hear me out. I swear this'll be the last time I bother you in awhile. If you want, I would even stay away from you in school. It would be hard but I promise I'll try. I promise, if you just hear me out––"
"Of course I'll talk to you Jake." I gave him a small smile.
I know I should be incredibly mad at him, but it's a hard feat to muster. It's a difficult feat to keep when he's acting like this. Like how he's uncaring whether he keeps his cool or not in front of people––especially Andrew––like how he ranted just about two seconds ago and like how he looked so cute while ranting. Like how his face fell just because I didn't answer immediately. Like how as if he desperately needed to talk to me...
And like how he made out with my best friend.
No matter how hard I try to stay positive about things, images of him and Maggie kept playing in my head. I didn't know exactly what happened but that's surprisingly the worst part. Not knowing means that I'm in the dark about this and I have no choice but to imagine what happened. I guess letting him talk to me is going to be a good thing after all. He could give answers to my questions.
