The father.

"Daddy's here."

He was standing over me, his large frame casting a dark shadow over me and giving off a sickening chill.

That's when it clicked. I remembered so many years ago, a man who came to my home when my mother wasn't around.

The man smiled at me, but there was something sinister behind it. My mother arrived and instantly lost control. She jumped between me and the man and screamed to go into my room.

I ran and hid behind the bed, and could hear loud voices. Then I heard a scream, my mother's scream and I ran to her. When I got there, the man was gone, and my mother was on the floor sobing softly, a palm holding her cheek. I knelt by her, and she jolted upright, wiping her tears. Her cheek was dark red.

"Momma. What happened." She looked at me, her eyes moist with tears then wrapped her arms around me.

"It's okay Aria. Everything will be okay."

It was same man was standing in front of me, but with a darker aura coming from him. I shot a flame at him and jumped to my feet. He barely flinched.

"Who are you and what do you want?"

"Now Aria, that's no way to talk to your father."

The words struck me like a mallet, and I couldn't process them.

"Forgive my form of introduction, I needed to get your attention."

My father. The man in front of me held no resemblance to me, apart from his eye colour. And just because a man showed up and claimed to be my father, did not mean I had to believe it. I didn't believe him.

"Relax. I don't mean any harm. I want to see my daughter, that's all."

"You, are not my father."

He smirked as gaint black wings slowly came out of his back. "Do you believe me now?"

I stood and stared at the sight I thought I'd never see on another person but me. Though his wings enhanced his evil appearance, he still looked marvellous. The glowing sunset added to his beauty, making him seem like an angel. A dark angel.

My heart was thumping. Questions raced through my head, each one fighting to be asked first. Why did he suddenly decide to show up?

"I know you have a lot of questions, so if you want them answered, follow me."

I frowned deeply. It didn't think it was safe follow him, but my mouth spoke against my better judgement

"Let's go." I said and he smiled and took off into the air. I followed.

"Who are you? Why are you coming to me now, if you really are my father." I asked when he came to a stop at a cliff.

"Your mother, is a very evil woman." He looked at me square in the eyes. "She threatened to kill you if I didn't stay away from you."

"Wait, what do you mean, is? Is she alive." My eyes widened in hope.

He sighed, looked down at his hands and started rubbing them together. "Yes, she is. But be prepared for what you are going to see." A red orb was forming in his hands and it grew bigger as he rubbed them together, until it was the size of a door.

When it stopped growing, it started to glow, an image forming in it. My mother, locked in a cell. She looked like she was crying.

"Mom." I reached out, but stopped when she looked up, showing black emotionless orbs where her blue eyes used to be.

"What's wrong with her?" I asked not believing what I saw.

"She is evil, she just didn't make it apparent to you." I turned away and began pacing, wanting what he told me to be a lie. It didn't make sense that my mother, the who had always been there, was evil. I didn't believe it at all.

I touched the projection of my mother, and was greeted by a glass wall. Staring into her eyes was painful, because I couldn't find any sign of my mother that once was. Hot tears fell down my cheeks.

"Where is she?"

"Somewhere where she can't hurt you." I stood up and walked towards the man, who still held a stoic face.

"How do know all this anyway? How do you know that she's evil, how do I know that you're really my father?"

He rolled a sleeve slightly above his wrist and showed me the same wing markings I had, on his wrist. His was not glowing bright colours like mine was, it was black on his skin. I shivered, surprised.

"They call us the ones of chaos, only three of our kind. We have an advantage over the other faes, my daughter. We wield power, greater than you can imagine."

He formed a red ball of energy in his hands and threw it. It flew until it hit a mountain. The mountain didn't stay up a minute, and came crumbling down.

"All this, saving this kingdom, and that prince." He spat the word 'prince' like it was something bitter. "It's holding you back. You don't need to defeat the darkness. You need the darkness. It's the source of our power, more power than you just witnessed."

"Come with me, Aria." He grabbed my shoulders. "Come me and see what power is waiting for you. I was once like you, Aria, but I let the darkness expand my power, now I'm greater than you can imagine. Come and be where you are meant to be."

Somehow, I felt drawn to his words. Not by the prospect of unimaginable power, but by the idea of actually belonging somewhere. The thought of two more like me was endearing, but the sugar coated words didn't mask the evil intentions behind them well enough.

I stepped back as I realised that the power thirsty man in front of me had not succumbed to the darkness. My father was the darkness. The memory of the day the darkness took my mother came to mind, and like that, I knew that it was him all along. The same dark aura was radiating off him.

"Why did you take my mother?"

"She is where she belongs, where she cant hurt you. With the darkness. That's what she wants."

"You lying son of...." I edged towards him, my anger brimming. "You took her and now you're saying she's evil. She has never hurt me, she would never hurt me."

I could feel energy surfacing at my fingertips, and I was on the edge. I shot a flames at him and it struck him, causing a smile to form on his face.

"That's right, my dear. Give into the anger, let the darkness take you."

He was right, I was dangerously close to losing it completely. I needed to calm down, but the fact that he would try to destroy the  image of my mother I had, had my blood boiling.

I thought of her, her calming nature and her familiarity. She was still alive and that as all that mattered, no matter what the man said.

"Give in and you can have revenge on those who called you a monster."

I thought about what he said and shook my head. I didn't have to be what others said I was. It was only true if I let it be. The prince had shown me that. My friends had shown me that. That was when I calmed. The fire was gone, but the satisfaction of controlling the power remained. My hazing vision returned and the man wasn't there anymore.

"You will come to the darkness, daughter." I heard his voice, but he was nowhere to be found. "I will make sure of it."
