Resting her head on the cool glass, her thoughts swirled. There was something different between them that she knew about from the day she woke up in his bed. But she refused to really acknowledge for fear it would disappear. It was almost a push and pull attraction. She then realized that she was always the push and he was the pull. However, this time she was pulling him to her, but he was pushing away. For some reason she couldn't really fathom beyond the point of him being a gentleman.
She shivered reminiscing in how he made her feel with his ever consuming passion and hunger. The thoughts left her feeling a little too vulnerable at that moment so she squeezed her eyes shut trying to forget it all.
Kaarina woke up the next day feeling wholeheartedly disoriented as she was jolted from her sleep, floating in the sweet abyss between the awake and the sleeping.
She found herself enjoying that feeling, as if she was a new born baby looking through eyes of wonderment and pure bliss. Then a harsh knock made sure she was fully grounded to reality. With a groan of reluctance to actually join the living world, she stole a few quiet seconds to stretch and bathe in the safety of her bed.
Another knock and a door was being pushed open. Kaarina quickly got up as she heard the crash in the kitchen. Her eyes caught the red digits of her alarm clock beside her bed and felt her mind wound up into a panic. It was almost five. There was no way she wasn't going to be extremely late for work.
She might not be an employee, but she always wanted to lead as an example.
And for what, a few extra hours of sleep. She could only remember a blur of coming up to her apartment with the help of the butler. She ran to the bathroom to splash water on face to try to cool down the mortified heat rising in her cheeks of how drunkenly she must have acted.
Maybe I really was drunk, her subconscious kicked in full gear. Drunk on wanting him.
She wondered when she would ever refer to him as anything but him. Her innovation and creativity was quite lacking there, very unexpected especially when she was those things with her culinary skills. Kaarina smelled something delicious and knew the person who broke into her apartment without even seeing him. What she wasn't expecting when she came into the kitchen to see him and her mother chattering like they were already mother and son-in-law.
Kaarina froze at that thought, watching them. Son-in-law? They weren't going to get married. That couldn't happen. Could it?
Achilles could sense her the moment she stood there watching them, but he didn't want to let her know that. He didn't want her to know that she had so much of an effect on him. Or maybe she already knew.
It took everything in him to stand there preparing breakfast with her mother chatting his ears off while she stood only a short distance away with her eyes trained on him. How easy it would to eat up the distance between them and devour her.
He gritted his teeth, remembering how he could have branded her as his the night before. Seeing her so fired up and determined had done something to him, and so their attraction had consumed him. But not completely. It was so easy to just ravish her in that blind lust, so out of control. Yet Achilles stopped. Not out of anything less than the fact he was out of control. Thank goodness for years of practicing self-control after learning that losing control was one of, or the worst, things that he could do. And he sure didn't want Kaarina to see that part of him. Never if he could help it, but that seemed more than impossible since it seemed the attraction between them was getting stronger.
Damn! Right at that moment he could feel the unmistakable pull that drew them ever so close. Too close for him to think rationally. Way too close to form any attachments. Achilles wasn't sure what he thought of that. He wasn't sure what it was about her that arrested him so powerfully. Maybe it was that she immediately stood out with her naturally glowing skin tone, made even more noticeable in the white shirt she was wearing. The only thing it seemed she was wearing, the shirt skirting the top of her thighs leaving her long legs on display.
