I leaned against the fence watching the horses storm by in awe. It's my dads birthday, and the whole family went to the horse track to celebrate. I placed a bet for five dollars earlier and won fifty dollars, but I didn't plan on betting anymore.
Everyone else was up in the box, but I like being up close to the action.
"You look so concentrated." I heard a low voice say. I looked to my right, finding a very attractive boy that looked like he was eighteen like me.
I didn't see him there before and didn't know how long he was there, so it was kind of weird.
"It's pretty interesting. Have you bet anything?" I asked turning my body towards him.
"Waiting for the right horse." He said simply, turning his attention to the track. Horse 5 was in the lead, just like I predicted. I've guessed everything right so far but I'm not much of a gambler.
The air gun shot announcing the horses victory and I heard many hollers of excitement.
I pulled out the pamphlet showing the next round of horses and their stats, "Sandy Days" standing out to me.
"What are the odds that we get outta here and I take you for dinner." He offered with a smirk. I raised my eyebrows and looked at the pamphlet again.
"The same odds as Double Decker had at winning this thing." I said pointing to the horse with the worst record.
He laughed lightly and grabbed his wallet. I watched him pull out a hundred dollar bill.
"I guess I'm betting on Double Decker then." He said walking away. My jaw dropped and I watched him take the money to the lady at the betting booth, and she handed him a small ticket.
This must be his first time at a place like this. He walked back confidently and I looked at him confused.
"I'm Grayson. Grayson Dolan. And I believe, that fate will have this horse win, and I'm going to kiss you because I would win $1,000 and be overjoyed. This will make you fall in love with me and we will look back on this day years from now on the day you almost missed out on meeting the love of your life." He said with a goofy smile. I stuck my hand out for him to shake.
"I'm (y/n). (Y/n) (y/l/n). And I think your delusional but it's adorable." I said as he shook my hand.
We talked about random things until the air horns blared, showing that the horses would take a lap and then the race would start.
I scanned the horses in search of Double Decker, and when I did find him it didn't look so good. He kept on turning right or left and just randomly stopping.
Grayson still watched that horse with an unconditional smile.
As the horses passed us by he pointed at his derp of a horse and looked at me. (Yes I just used the word derp in 2017 fight me)
"That's our fate horse." He confirmed with a grin. I playfully rolled my eyes and leaned against the fence watching the horses get closer and closer to the starting point.
They're off. Hoots and hollers fill the air along with an announcer speaking so fast I couldn't even tell what he was saying.
Double Decker was trailing behind, and Sandy Days was in the lead. I glanced at Grayson, and he didn't even look the slightest bit nervous.
All of a sudden, near the last ten seconds, there goes Double Decker like a bullet, zooming past all of the other horses.
Everyone chanted no, but Grayson was the only exited one there.
"Come on baby! Let's go Double Decker! Go go go!" He roared jumping around. I yelled and jumped around with him, and Double Decker passed through the finish line first.
He picked me up and I wrapped my legs around his torso, and spun me in a circle. We were laughing uncontrollably, and all of the sudden he stopped and stared at me.
"I think this is the part where you kiss me." I whispered with a smile. He crashed his lips onto mine and I smiled into the kiss. I heard people clap around us, but for that moment in time we were all that mattered.
