Photograph

I've always hated when people ask to gather for a photograph
Like everything is all so choreographed.

Cute dimples and dazzling smiles, but how many of them actually reach their eyes?
Did you know a photograph can be a lie?

The laughing couple you see
Maybe five seconds ago he bruised her in glee.

Perhaps that is why I prefer candid shots.
Where nothing is hidden and you can let the facade drop.

Isn't that more meaningful?
I don't want frame after frame of the same rigid smile,
I want life in essence
With all it's ups and downs, struggles and hurdles and celebrations.

Raw emotion is what I desire
On film I want it to transpire.
Seeing a happy family portrait, I always wonder
Do they have any problems hidden way under?

Who cares if your makeup doesn't slay or if you don't look fresh off the runway
At least you were you, and all your actions were true.

Captured moments at random are the best,
doesn't matter if you were yelling or crying or sleeping
Such instances are usually ones we forget,
It came so naturally, just like breathing

And in that moment, one click really,
You have a genuine memory frozen for eternity.

But what do I know, I am merely the clicker,
hidden behind the lens.
Because like society,
I am afraid people will see my true reality.
