The doctors said that I'd be able to leave the hospital today. My cuts and burns healed nicely with very little infection. I just had even more scars to learn to live with now.
Summer brought me a change of clothes so that I could get out of the embarrassing hospital gown. Jeans, a white ruffle top and my black boots was a definite improvement from the gown. I dressed quickly so I could get my discharge papers and go home.
I walked out of the hospital that I've been cooped up in for the past three weeks and smiled. My body didn't hurt anymore, but he put so many more scars on it.
And I just stopped hating them.
I smiled when I saw Lincoln, leaning against his car, looking mouthwatering in a tight black shirt and dark jeans. His teeth flashed with the heart stopping grin he gave me and he pushed himself off the car and walked toward me.
"Hi," I smiled at him when he reached me. He took my hand in his and pulled me to the car.
"Let's go home," he said. I placed a hand a hand over his on the steering wheel and suddenly got serious.
"No. I have to help her," I whispered. His brow furrowed in confusion.
"Help who?"
I looked up and felt a single tear slid down my cheek. "Amber."
And that's how we found ourselves sitting outside the police station. I took in a deep breath before exhaling and stepping out of the car.
"I'm here to see Detective Moore," I told the officer at the desk. He nodded and called for someone.
Detective Moore was the head detective on my case. He came to the hospital a few times, but I didn't want to talk.
Now I'm getting justice.
Now I'm saving Amber.
His familiar face came into view and I followed him back to his office, Lincolns hand still clutched tightly in mine.
"Juliet. Whenever you're ready, just tell me what happened," the detective said. He pressed play on his recorder and waited. I looked at Lincoln who gave me an encouraging smile. Then I faced detective Moore.
And told him everything.
From my awful childhood, to me and my mother running from my father, me practically raising my baby sister without my mother around, her ending up leaving us, to what happened the month I was gone.
I spilled everything. The words just wouldn't stop. I couldn't stop. Terry needs to pay.
He will go down.
By the time I was done, it was dark out and I stared blankly at the two shocked faces before me. I said some things that I didn't tell Lincoln before, so some was new.
Detective Moore shut off the recorder and heaved a huge sigh. "My god."
I took a deep breath and suddenly felt like a million pounds had just slipped off my shoulders and crashed to the ground.
I didn't cry throughout the whole thing, I just emptied my head.
"We will be sending everyone to his house and the warehouse he kept you in right now. You say there were other females in the house? One helped you out, right?," he asked and I nodded.
Amber.
"I'm going," I said. Both detective Moore and Lincoln started to immediately reject me and I ignored the both of them and stood up.
"That's my father who did this. My father who's almost taken my life hundreds of times. I will be there to him go down."
Thirty minutes later, we led twenty police cars and the SWAT team to my fathers house.
I felt nothing as police swarmed the house.
I said nothing when they started bringing his men out in cuffs, some fighting, most just giving themselves up.
I didn't show any reaction until they started bringing girls out. Some I recognized. Some were new.
A huge grin stretched across my face when I saw the familiar fiery red hair of Amber. I ran across the yard and threw my arms around her. She sobbed into my neck and we fell to our knees, both crying.
"I promised I would come back," I whispered and she just cried harder. She sobbed thank you into my neck a hundred times and I managed to bring us to our feet and get her over to the waiting ambulance.
An angry roar made me spin around quickly and lose the smile off my face. I watched several police officers restraining Terry and pulling him out of the house. He looked over at me with wild eyes and yelled again. His whole face was red with anger, humiliation and rage, veins popped out on his forehead.
And I just stood there and watched them take him and unceremoniously shove him into the back of a police car. I went back to Lincolns side and laced my fingers with his.
"Lincoln?," I whispered. He looked down at me in question.
"Take me home please."
