Blake's POV
The next week I was in an investigator's office. I'd turned in the papers that the liars had given me for Fancy, and it was determined that the papers were fake.
All thanks to the careless mistake of putting the date of September 31.
There is no September 31.
After we had turned the papers in, a further investigation was being put in action. It started with them asking me for my story all over again.
"Tell me Blake, everything that happened," the man said.
The next 35 minutes was me re explaining the events of the multiple day journey me and Fancy went on. The man just nodded, and wrote things down.
When I finished, he asked me a few yes or no questions. It was pretty easy.
"Thank you, Blake," he said, and I exited the room.
Mom and Dad took me home. They were really stressed. They'd taken off work for the investigation, and 2 weeks was the longest they'd EVER taken off.

For the next week, me, Mom, and Dad were on edge. They'd been investigating all week, but we still hadn't gotten any calls about what has been found out.
I got home from school, and I heard Mom and Dad talking in hushed voices. Dad was on the phone.
I came in and waved to them, but Mom just held a finger to her lips. I sat down, and we waited silently as Dad listened.
"Okay, thank you. We really, really appreciate it," Dad said, then hung up. He looked at us, then broke out into a grin.
"They caught the men, and have come to their decision that they're guilty."
Relief flushed through my body, and Mom started crying! They both wrapped me in a hug, and apologized. They really hadn't believed my story, but somehow, the police got the story out of the kidnappers, and they would be going to jail.
I couldn't believe it.
"So, does that mean Fancy will come back to Chestnut Grove?" I asked hopefully.
"Not necessarily," Dad said, and looked nervous. "They found out where the men got her from."
"How'd they get her?" I asked curiously.
Dad was quiet for a minute, and looked at my mom. "What, you can tell me," I said.
Dad took a deep breath, then spilled.
"The police found out that the two men, they, well, um....ugh, they murdered her owner."
It was dead silent.
"Oh my gosh," is all that came out of my mouth. Fancy's owner. Dead. Killed. Gone. I only blinked.
What if they were planning to do that to me?
I gulped, and then Dad started talking again.
"They've been sentenced to prison for life, for murder and kidnapping," he said. "Police and investigators are going to look at Fancy's owner's will to see where Fancy stands in it."
I nodded, then went upstairs to my room.
My head was spinning. I could've died. Fancy could have died. What if they actually had killed us? They could have. Thank God they didn't.
I said a prayer, thanking God for my life and for Fancy's life. I wasn't sure what was going to happen to me and Fancy, but anything sounded better than what could have happened.
We may be separated, but at least we're both still alive.
