When I got out of the hospital, I sat in my room thinking about whether or not I should text Ronnie.
I knew I shouldn’t because I knew he liked me but I felt like I should because I considered him a friend.
I finally decided that I would text him and if things got awkward I would stop.
I looked at the piece of paper again. 555-2201. I typed it into my phone.
I slowly typed. “Hi Ronnie, its Lexi.”
It took him a few minutes to answer. “Hey! What’s up?”
“Nothing really, just got out of the hospital… What about you?”
“Just got out of the shower…”
“Haha… ok?”
“Sorry, was that too much?”
“Uhm, kinda yeah.”
“Sorry.”
“No problem.”
We continued talking like this for a couple of hours. I told him I had to go when I started getting tired.
I went to bed and the next morning I woke up to the sound of the doorbell ringing. I figured my mom would get it so I just stayed in bed. It rang again so I got out of bed and started walking downstairs. When I got to the door I saw a note. It said ’Me and dad went to the store to get groceries. Be back in a couple of hours. -Mom" I took the note off of the door and crumpled it up. I opened the door. It was Ronnie.
“Uhm, hi. How did you get here?” I asked.
“I walked here.”
“No, I mean how did you know where I lived?”
“Oh, that. I asked Jess.”
“Ok, well I guess you can come in.”
“Thanks. Did I wake you up or do you just not get dressed in the mornings?”
I looked down and realized I was still in pajamas.
“You woke me up.”
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
“It’s ok. I needed to get up anyway.”
“Ok.”
“I’ll be right back. I’m gonna change.”
“You don’t have to change. It’s just me.”
“I have to change.”
I went to my room and put on a pair of shorts and a baggy t-shirt then I ran back downstairs.
“So, why did you come over here?” I asked.
“I just wanted to see how you were feeling.”
“I’m good. I feel a lot better.”
“Good.”
I nodded my head and then there was an awkward silence.
“Are your parents not home?” He finally said.
“No, they went to go get groceries. They should be back in a little while.”
“Well, I can go.”
“No, it’s ok. They won’t mind.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. So, uhm, did you need to ask me anything else?”
“Well, kind of.”
“Go ahead.”
“I don’t know if I should.”
“Come on. You can tell me anything. You are my friend.”
“I am?”
“Yeah, unless you don’t want to be my friend then that’s ok.”
“No! I want to be your friend.”
“Ok then ask me.”
“Ok, how do I get a girl to like me?”
“Well, you should compliment her on something like her smile or how nice she looks.”
“Anything else?”
“Be yourself.”
“That’s it?”
“Pretty much.”
“Ok. Thanks.”
At this point mom and dad were back. They walked in with groceries in both hands. “Hi honey. Who’s this?” Dad asked.
“That’s Ronnie.” Mom said.
Ronnie smiled and waved.
“Who’s Ronnie?”
“Ronnie is one of my new friends. He’s a freshman this year.” I said.
“Ok, well nice to meet you Ronnie.”
“Nice to meet you too.”
“Honey, did you show Ronnie around the house?” Mom asked.
“No, would you like to see it?” I asked.
“Sure.”
I showed him around the whole house. The last room we went to happened to be my room.
“And this is the last room in the house. My room.” I said.
He walked in and I walked behind him. He looked at my wall which had a poster of Avenged Sevenfold on it.
“You like Avenged Sevenfold?”
“Yeah, I just recently started listening to them. I just put that poster up yesterday.”
“Awesome! I love that band.”
“Cool.”
I showed him my collection of CD’s and then I sat on my bed while he was looking through all of them.
“You have really good taste in music.”
“Thanks!”
“Lexi?”
“Yeah?” I said as I messed with one of my stuffed animals.
“Can I ask you something else?”
“Sure, anything.”
“Do you like me?”
“Yeah, you’re a good person. Why?”
“I want to know if you’ll go out with me.”
