Day 23: Comatose

Third Person:

Ella lay in the hospital bed almost peacefully; her hair framing her head, making her look like a princess waiting for her prince charming to come rescue her. Fox had laid bouquet of red flowers beside her bed, and he was staring down at Ella's hand as he held it. She was lucky to have escaped with her life when she was hit by the car. The man driving the car at the time, Jesse Scott, was going to be excused at Ella's discretion as the brakes of the car didn't appear to be working, and the steering wheel seemed to be faulty. It was almost too coincidental.

Tom cowered in the top corner opposite the door, and he looked over the whole situation that he had planned. He wasn't going to expose himself so that Fox could see him, but instead he was preparing to use the last of his ghostly strength to show Ella what had happened - he could only do so when she was comatose.

So, Tom sank down from the ceiling and entered Ella's sleeping body.

Ella's POV:

It was all black in my mind, and I couldn't move or think. It was just nothing. I couldn't open my eyes, even though I could sometimes hear Fox's voice or Luca's little bark, but apart from that I heard nothing.

Then my whole vision lit up, and I was surrounded by snow and large evergreen trees. I immediately recognised the place as the large expanse of land that lay just beyond my back garden, and I remembered how Tom and I would play in the snow there; we would hide behind the trees and run between them to avoid being hit by each other.

I couldn't control where I looked, or what I did, but when my vision moved down, I saw Tom's puffy coat and green scarf. When my vision moved up again, I saw myself; grinning and holding two snowballs which I threw at Tom. I felt everything Tom felt, listened to everything Tom thought, and saw whatever Tom saw.

But what scared me was that this was the day that Tom died.

Everything faded, and it came to the time when I ran back inside to grab something to eat for the two of us. I would end up staying in there for longer than I thought, and when I returned outside my innocent eyes saw Tom lying in the snow.

I could feel Tom throwing himself into the snow and making snow angels, then he would get up and build a mini snowman. He was genuinely happy, and when he felt a snowball hit him, he thought it was me.

He turned around, and his child-ish grin was replaced by an expression of pure terror, and a large, muscular man towered above him. When Tom's gaze travelled up to his face, I squirmed and mentally screamed when I recognised the man as Mr. Goodman, or Morgan.

"Let's play a game, young man." he says, and I felt Tom relax as he remembered that his Daddy was friends with this man and he was kinder than Daddy, so he wouldn't do him any harm.

Tom laughed and chucked snow at Mr. Goodman. He smiled, before it hardened and he grabbed Tom around the waist, lifting him into the air. Tom was giggling and squirming about, trying to free himself of his new opponent's grasp.

Tom's laughs turned to screaming as I felt the sharp blade enter his and my stomach. I supressed my agony, and Tom's gaze turned to Mr. Goodman, his eyes were desperate and he was scared.

I felt Tom go in and out of conciousness, and I occasionally saw my younger self trying to soothe him and then going to get help. I didn't see myself again, but instead I saw my mother, and felt her cool hands on Tom's cheeks. It was as though I was fully in Tom's body, and my stomach painfully ached as I felt my bloody losing blood and feeling more and more weak, and I could see the blood staining the snow red around Tom.

"I'm sorry, Tommy," I heard my Mum say as she drew out a kitchen knife.

Tom tried to reply, but he couldn't.

Everything fuzzed and faded as I left Tom's body and went into the sky, and I saw my mother plunge the knife into Tom's heart to end his pain.

*****

I stayed airborne, floating like I was weightless, and I hung around Tom's limp body until I saw a man cautiously coming up to Tom's body. He picked up his body with little care, and I watched him as he carried Tom deep into the woods, where I knew I had gone once I had seen Tom's body - I used the woods as an escape. He uncovered a large hole next to one of the smallest trees, and he threw Tom's body into it before covering it again. I noticed my younger self standing a while away, watching this monster hiding away the evidence. I could see the anger on my face, but I don't remember seeing this.

When the man looked up and saw me standing amongst the trees, he chased after my younger self. I watched, not knowing what would happen. Then I saw a glint of a needle once he had caught me and saw as he stuck it into my arm, pressing the liquid into my arm.

I heard him say to himself "That's my trail covered" as he pulled the needle out of my body, and he carried me to my house as my blurry eyes looked around. I couldn't see the man's face until he looked around the area before entering the house.

It was the same man that was talking to Mr. Goodman, it was the same person that drove the car into me.

Jesse Scott.
