Beca looked over to see Fat Amy fast asleep. Her roommate was a heavy sleeper so once she was asleep, she always stayed asleep. Beca was having a hard time sleeping so she reached underneath her pillow to retrieve a ratty pink blanket with hearts on it. It was the last thing anyone would expect Beca to own. Her great aunt had given it to her the day she was born and she slept with it ever since. She always kept it in her pillowcase, as to not ruin her reputation, but some nights when she couldn't sleep, she would take it out and breath in the smell of home.
That night was one of those nights. Beca pulled it out and held it close to her face. She closed her eyes and did what her therapist had told her to do. She imagined her happy place. She was at home, as a little girl and her family was getting along. No fighting, just love. It was all Beca ever wanted, but could never have.
She eventually fell asleep, still cuddling the blanket. As she was sleeping, a lonely redhead made her way into the bedroom and decided to sleep next to Beca. In the darkness she couldn't see the blanket. Chloe wrapped her arm around the sound asleep Beca and kissed her head.
Beca awoke to Chloe's arm around her and the blanket pressed up against her face. She couldn't move without waking Chloe and her heart began to pound faster.
"Calm down, Becs, it's just me." Chloe said. Chloe sat up and looked at Beca's face in the light. "What's this?"
"Nothing." Beca said and hid the blanket in her pillow case.
"No let me see." Chloe took it and examined it.
"Please. I need that." Beca said, feeling a tear escape.
"Don't cry." Chloe said. She placed the blanket in her own lap and used her thumb to wipe away Beca's tear. "It's okay. You can trust me, Beca."
"It's my blanket. I was having a hard time sleeping last night and it smells like home." Beca said. Chloe picked up the blanket and smelled it.
"Ew! Oh my gosh! I never want to go to your house!" Chloe threw the blanket at Beca. Beca giggled a little bit as another tear dropped down her cheek.
"My dad always made fun of how bad it smelled. It smells good to me." Beca said.
"Why are you crying?"
"No reason."
"Becs."
"I'm fine. It's just hard to imagine what life used to be like. Before my parents split."
"Let me help you." Chloe whispered. She folded the blanket in her lap and looked Beca in the eye.
"They loved you so much. They both took care of you and made sure you were healthy and happy." Chloe whispered and smiled. "They still do."
"I love you Chlo." Beca whispered. Chloe placed her hand on Beca's cheek and pulled her towards her lips.
"I love you, too, Becs." Chloe said before closing the gap between their lips.
