Chapter 15

Bridget's POV

Honestly, I am not excited to meet my 'grandparents'. I mean I haven't had the best reputation in the world, and the last time she talked to her mom was the Ellen Show, so her mom knows all my flaws. This will make for a good Thanksgiving dinner.

And after I had made a show last night about it al, the pressure is even higher to be better than normal. No jokes about drugs, alcohol or sex tonight. So in general, no jokes.

"Bridget let's go!! We're going to be late!" I came down the stairs wearing jeans and a long sleeve cardigan to cover my scar. "Oh no, no you are not wearing that." Harry looked at Taylor

"What's wrong with that? I think you look great Bridg."

"What's wrong with it?! She's wearing jeans. I mean we aren't a very high class family but this is your first impression! Don't you want to look nice?"

"I thought this was nice? These are my nice jeans." I smirked and so did Harry; Taylor not so much.

"Okay whatever, were late."

It took us two hours to get to one of the condos her parents were staying at for the month.

"Hey mom! Dad!" Taylor exchanged hugs with everyone and I was next in line, "Mom, dad, this is my daughter Bridget."

I extended out my hand "Hi nice to meet you." Mrs. Swift's smile dropped immediately, Mr. Swift shook my hand and gave me a fake smile.

Was it my jeans? Damn it.

"Bridget, excuse your language." Taylor corrects

Shit, did I say that out loud?

"Yes. Now stop." I gave her an apologetic look. She exchanged an 'I know; you're nervous' look.

Andrea's eyes lit up as soon as she looked behind me "You must be Harry!! It is so wonderful to meet you! I have heard so many great things!" Well that was quite a greeting. Let the awkwardness begin.

We sat in the living room as Scott finished up dinner. I felt like a fly on the wall, Andrea was asking questions about Harry and his childhood and talking with Taylor and showing Taylor's baby pictures to Harry. "You were adorable Taylor. I was just a dorky kid with glasses in a twin sized bed haha!!"

We were sitting at the dinner table; her parents were sitting on the ends and I was across from Harry and Taylor. Austin came in and sat next to me. "Hi, I'm Austin; it's great to finally meet the Bridget everyone has been talking about. I guess I'm your uncle haha." I smiled at him, finally someone that's nice to me.

"Why are you so nice to me?" I put my head down and whispered it to him.

"Well Bridget, I don't read, so don't know anything about you to not be nice." He laughed. I finally feel welcomed.

"So Bridget, what happened to your forearm?" Oh... my scar. Taylor dropped her fork on her plate making a large noise; Harry started choking on his water he was drinking. Taylor started patting on his back. Harry knew the whole story, he asked me about it when we were watching Love Actually that one night. I didn't mind explaining it to him; I mean it's my past sooner or later I'll have to embrace it.

"My scar?" I asked Austin,

"Bridget you don't have to talk about it." Taylor allows me to avoid the question

"No it's fine, I don't mind..." I moved my head to Austin "I attempted suicide one night, and when I was in the middle of cutting myself I had passed out and the razor moved down my arm. Leaving this scar behind" I pointed at it.

Andrea wasn't pleased with my story telling whatsoever; you could tell the conversation made her uncomfortable.

"Oh I'm sorry, I really didn't know."

"Well come on Austin, you know that scars have a story behind them. Like the one on your stomach, you don't want anyone asking about that do you?!" Taylor was scolding him for asking a question.

"No, Taylor, it's really okay. It's part of my past. These things happen" I try to make sure she's okay more than anything. She gets so protective over me, I just needed her to know it's really okay

"Shouldn't she be calling her mother?" Andrea whispers to herself, obviously being loud enough for us to all hear.

I asked if I could help cleaning up, but Andrea had wanted me out of the kitchen as fast as possible. Everyone else helped clean up, Taylor allowed me to leave to get ready for bed.

Harry's POV

I felt really bad for Bridget, she just wanted her own grandparents to like her, but they were so damn closed minded, dinner was awkward; Taylor told me that her parents frown upon all suicide for some weird reason, I didn't ask any other questions.

As I think more about it, I assume it has to do with their religion, that God gave Bridget life, she shouldn't have the power to take it away.

Bridget went outside to grab her bag and Scott came up to Taylor. We were sitting on the couch her head was on my chest. Scott sat down on the couch next to us.

"You like Bridget right?" Taylor asks, picking at her clothes

Uhoh, I saw this going downhill fast, I held Taylor tighter with what was about to come.

"Well Tay, I don't mind her. It is going to be a little different getting used to someone that is so different from all of us. But your mother, I don't think she is going to come around anytime soon."

"What are you talking about? I think she has major potential and she has been nothing but respectful towards you guys" oh shit here it comes

"Not to you Taylor" her mother comes from the kitchen

"Taylor look at Bridget, she doesn't think before she speaks, she was rude the first impression, she swears at the dinner table and right in front of your mother. Your mother told me that she hopes when you have your own kid that you'd actually raise right."

I felt Taylor grip my thigh tightly, she was scared. And when she realized that Bridget was right behind Scott she sat right up. Bridget stood there with her bag on her back, with her mouth open.

"I am go-gonna go out for, uhm, yeah, I'm going to go for a walk."

"No Bridget please. Don't go." Taylor begs, getting off the couch behind her. After that; the door slammed shut.

"What the hell dad! Was it really fucking necessary for you to say that? That is my daughter and like it or not she is your granddaughter, and I love her so much; and so should you." She was furious with her parents response, but I'm not sure it was out of line. She asked a question that was digging herself a hole, but regardless, I stand behind her and will try my best to stand up for her.

Taylor went and grabbed the keys but I stopped her. "I'll go, I know what it's like to be hated by a family member." She nodded and gave me the keys. I kissed her on the forehead and got in the car.

I've been driving around for about an hour now, and I haven't seen Bridget at all. That's until I was at a stop light and I was looking down an alley. I saw Bridget's jeans and bright cardigan. She was pinned against a wall; just like Taylor and me last night.

I couldn't take seeing her like that, with some guy on her that she doesn't even know. I honked the horn and she jumped. When I drove over to park, she walked towards the car and walked in. She had absolutely no expression on her face.

All she said was "please don't tell Taylor" I agreed and drove off.
