Chapter 59 "Three Creepers"

                                    

                                          
It's a very early morning for Shaylynn. If she wants to be on time she had to get up early so she could get ready and look some what presentable.
Severide wakes up, takes a shower, gets dressed and heads downstairs. He finds Shaylynn in the kitchen fixing breakfast.
"Why are you up so early?" he asks her.
"I'm meeting some people at the Firehouse" Shaylynn tells him.
"You are? Are they secret admirers?" he asks jokingly.
Shaylynn gives Severide a look, "Yeah, they love the Stay Puff Marshmallow Woman" she tells him while putting her hands on her stomach.
"Stop that!" Severide tells her, "You look gorgeous!"
Shaylynn walks around the counter and gives Severide a kiss. They eat breakfast, then Severide grabs his bag. 
"I'll see you at the Firehouse" he tells her. 
He gives Shaylynn a kiss before walking out the door.
Shaylynn gathers up some things and heads out to Shelby. Before heading to the Firehouse, she needs to stop and check on something.
                          
Severide arrives at the Firehouse. He parks, gets out, and heads up the driveway. Standing in a stall doorway is Mouch and Otis looking at something.
"What are you two looking at?" Severide asks them.
"There's three guys sitting in a car like three creepers. They keep looking at the Firehouse" Otis tells him.
"I went out to them and asked if I could help them with something, they said they were waiting on Shaylynn. Do you know them?" Mouch asks Severide.
"I just found out about them this morning" he tells Mouch.
"Why are they waiting on Shaylynn for?" Otis asks Severide.
"That I can't tell you. Shaylynn never told me" he tells Otis.
Severide heads inside to change into his uniform.
Fifteen minutes later Shaylynn shows up. She parks in the parking spot she always parked in when she protected the Firehouse. Boden never had her sign taken down just in case they might need her again. She gets out of Shelby and starts walking back toward the three gentlemen. They see her, get out of their car and walk up to her.
"I'm sorry I'm late!" she tells them.
"That's alright! Don't worry about it" Derek tells her, "We've already had some interaction with a Fireman. He probably thought we were creepers before I told him we were waiting to meet you. That seemed to be an adequate answer." 
Shaylynn smiles, "Are you ready to head inside?" she asks them.
"Ready as ever" Derek tells her.
"After you!" Dick Wolf tells her.
Shaylynn smiles at him and starts walking up the driveway. They all walk into the stalls, Shaylynn tells the gentlemen that Squad is usually sitting at the table they passed. She leads them inside, waves at everyone in the common area and takes the guys back to Boden's office while explaining to them what the different areas are while they pass by them.
                          
Severide walks out to the common area. Casey walks up to him, "Who are the three guys with Shaylynn?"
"I have no clue. She told me this morning she was meeting them" Severide tells Casey.
Casey gives Severide a curious look.
Ten minutes later Boden walks out to the common area with Shaylynn and the three guys following behind him.
"Everyone, listen up! These three gentlemen are guests of Shaylynn's. I'll let her tell you who they are" Boden belts out.
"Everyone, this is Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, and Dick Wolf. They're interested in making a TV show about the lives of Chicago firefighters and want to base the show around Firehouse 51. They're here to observe and would love to talk to everyone" Shaylynn tells them.
Right after Shaylynn is done talking a call comes in, "Engine 51, Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, fire, Heartland Assisted Living Center."
The crews start heading to the stalls. Shaylynn and the guys step out of their way.
"Do you guys want to follow them?" Shaylynn asks them.
"Can we? That would be great to be able to watch them in action" Derek tells her.
"Sure" Shaylynn tells them as they start walking toward the stalls, "I forgot, I can only take one of you if someone wants to ride with me, I drove my Shelby Mustang."
Dick Wolf speaks up, "I'll go with you."
Shaylynn smiles at him.
The crews are leaving when Shaylynn and the guys reach the stalls.
"How are we going to keep up with them?" Derek asks Shaylynn.
"Come over to Shelby" she tells him.
They reach Shelby, Shaylynn opens the door and reaches into the back. She pulls out the light/siren Hank gave her a while ago and hands it to Michael.
"You'll be able to keep up with them with this" she tells Derek and Michael.
"We better get going" Shaylynn tells the guys.
Derek and Michael start running toward their car, while Dick and Shaylynn get into Shelby. She starts Shelby up. Shelby comes to life and Dick smiles.
"I realize we can keep up with the crews with speed, but what about getting through traffic?" Dick asks her.
"I have lights and a siren built into Shelby. Plus most people in Chicago know that if they see a Fire Engine Red Shelby Mustang it's me and get out of the way if I'm going pretty fast. But I usually have the lights and siren on also" she tells him as she looks in the rearview mirror to see if the other guys are ready.
Dick pulls out his phone and calls someone. Shaylynn can see in her mirror Michael putting his phone up to his ear.
"You guys try and keep up! That way Shaylynn can get you through traffic safely!" Dick tells Michael.
"Tell them to make sure to put the light on the outside of the car. There's a siren built in" she tells Dick.
"Did you hear that?" Dick asks Michael
Shaylynn turns on her lights and sirens. She takes off with Derek and Michael following.
"The crews have a pretty good head start. I'll have to take some shortcuts to catch up with them. Is Derek a pretty good driver?" she asks Dick.
Dick looks over at her and gives her a look. 
Shaylynn laughs.
                          
They race through Chicago taking back streets, alleys, whatever it takes to get to Heartland when the crews do.
Shaylynn and the guys arrive at the same time the Fire crews do. Shaylynn parks back at a good distance so not to interfere. Derek parks right behind her. She goes to get out, but stops.
"Are you alright?" Dick asks. 
She looks at him and smiles, "I have to remember no more doing that until the baby is out."
They watch as the crews head inside the building.
Shaylynn gets a weird look on her face.
"What is it?" Dick asks.
"There's no smoke and none of the residents are outside" she tells Dick, "Something doesn't seem right."
She reaches into the back, lifts a hatch and grabs a gun. 
"Should we wait with the cars?" Dick asks her.
"You guys can come, but stay about 10 feet behind me until I can see what's going on" she tells them.
Dick and Shaylynn get out. Derek and Michael walk up to them.
"We need to stay 10 feet behind Shaylynn" Dick tells the others.
"Why's that?" Michael asks.
"Do you notice there's no smoke and no residents are outside. Shaylynn has a bad feeling" Dick tells them.
Shaylynn has already started walking toward Heartland, the guys following behind her at a safe distance. She walks around Truck and notices that the crew is putting things away, so is Squad. 
Mouch is walking out of the building toward her, "Is everything alright?" she asks him.
He sees she has her gun, "Yeah, everything's fine" he tells her.
"Then what's going on?" she asks.
Mouch smiles, "Go in and find out."
She looks back and waves for the guys to come on up to her while putting her gun away.
"What's going on?" Derek asks her.
"I'm not sure. Mouch said to walk in and find out" she tells them.
They all start walking toward the doors. Dick is the first one there and opens the door for Shaylynn.
She smiles, "Thank you!"
Once inside they see Boden, Casey, Severide, the director of the assisted living center standing with a group of older ladies sitting in chairs. The director is scolding them like children. 
Shaylynn walks up behind Severide and whispers to him, "What's going on?"
He whispers back, "The ladies pulled the fire alarm. In THEIR words they wanted "SEXY" firemen to show up."
Shaylynn let's out a snicker and puts her forehead on Severide's back.
"You, Sonny! What's your name again?" one of the ladies asks pointing to Severide.
"It's Lieutenant Severide, Ma'am" he tells her.
"Can you step to the side, please" the lady says to him.
Severide steps to the side to reveal Shaylynn behind him.
"GIRLS! It's her! They're together! The Superhero Couple!" she says all excited.
Shaylynn looks at Severide like the woman has lost it.
"Superhero Couple?" Shaylynn asks the lady.
"Why yes, dear" the lady gets into her bag and pulls out a book and holds it out, "Here!"
Boden grabs it from the lady and hands it to Shaylynn. She notices it's a scrapbook and opens it. There's pictures of her and Severide when they were out on calls together along with newspaper articles. Shaylynn smiles at the lady while walking up to her to give back her book.
                          
Another call comes over the radios, "Engine 51, Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, Battalion 25 out of control fire, Fire Academy". 
Casey and Severide look at each with confused looks, then look at Boden.
"We better get going!" Boden tells them.
Casey and Severide start walking toward the doors. Boden looks at Shaylynn and smiles while following behind the Lieutenants.
Shaylynn smiles and looks at Derek, Dick, and Michael, "We better hurry up! You guys don't want to miss this." 
The Fire crews are taking off by the time Shaylynn and the guys get outside. They hurry to their cars to keep up with the crews this time. 
They reach the Fire Academy and see that the test fire building is engulfed in flames.
"They can control that fire" Severide radios to Casey.
"Maybe something broke and now they can't. The water they have on hand won't put that out" Casey radios back. 
The crews pull up and start getting out. Shaylynn along with the other guys pull up as well.
Everyone notices the Fire Commissioner is there. Boden gets out and walks over to talk to him while the crews get a hose out.
"SEVERIDE! TAKE LEAD ON THE HOSE!" Boden tells him. 
Severide looks at him confused, but does it. The rest of Squad stands behind him to help.
They start spraying the water onto the fire. The fire starts to go down and blue smoke starts to rise.
Severide shuts off the hose, "What the hell is going on?", he turns around to find Shaylynn standing behind him.
She's smiling from ear to ear, "We're having a boy!"
